I have an unmasked Kayle skin shard but Im not sure whether to upgrade to a permanent before the update or wait until after. If I wait would I the converted to the transcended shard? Or would I lose the shard completely? Thanks!
If you have the skin in-game it is automatically changed to the updated one. So even if you left it now and waited it would be updated as well.
Unmasked Kayle = Transcended Kayle
Riot is rebranding the skin like they did when they turned Crimson Akali into Infernal Akali with her rework. If you keep the shard it should turn into a Transcended Kayle skin shard when the rework hits, and if you upgrade it now it should automatically change to Transcended Kayle since it's the same skin.
