I still don't get the cliche of how tentacles are associated with hentai

I watched many tentacle anime like assassination classroom and Tokyo ghoul Or elfen lied and all the tentacles were used for is to strangle people and chop heads and limbs off.

Hell I even watched a lot of hentai myself and not one showed any tentacle plot

So I don't get where this cliche came from

Because in Japanese, the kanji for "hentai" is 痴漢 when used as a noun. When used as a verb, however, the kanji is 曲げる, which can also mean "bend", "curve", "distort", or "lean". Tentacles are known to do these things frequently.

This is also true in the English language, though you'll see it far less often. "Pervert" (the literal translation of "hentai") can be used as both a noun and a verb, such as in the sentence: "He conspired to pervert the course of justice."

Tentacles have had a long history in japanese erotica. Take for example the dream of the fisherman's wife, which was made over 200 years ago.

Theres also modern censorship laws to blame. You can't show a girl getting molested by dicks on tv, but if you turn those dicks into tentacles its ok.

I believe it's mostly associated with the Harem genre where they are often used for less than appropriate means.
