Competative Ranking Unfair

OK so I have been playin this game for nearly 4 years now, I have had my ups and downs but this takes the cake. As any other player I wanted to test out the competitive system, I have never hit anything above Bronze 1 till this season ( I never really cared to play but I decided to push myself for once and climb )

Along the way I've helped my various friends play and learn the game, but this truly upsets me. My friend has never placed, never played ranked before and ( not being rude ) fed the enemy team or went even every game. Lost 7/10 of his 10 placements. And he gets placed in Silver 4...

Maybe I'm not understanding the rank system correctly but in the 4 years I have played League I have never been able to place past Bronze 2, despite winning all 10 placements, getting positive KDA's and getting honors and all the rest. Why the heck, does an unexperienced, bad player, get a higher rank, then someone who has worked hard at this game to get out of Bronze...

SOMEONE EXPLAIN

The system is designed to rank new to ranked players higher than the average player. No, not joking, 1200 mmr is silver 4, the 50% point of the ladder.

New accounts get ranked around the silver 3 range, because silver 3 0 LP is about the 50% point of the player base. Because your friend lost more games than he won, he got ranked lower than the average. It's also important in which order you win/lose your placement games, since the ranked system treats win/loss streaks differently from simply losing/winning games without any streak. For example, winning 7 games in a row and then losing 3 games in a row will have you end up higher than 3 times winning 2 games in a row and then losing 1. This is why going 5-5 on a fresh account can have you end up at a different rank each time.

You however got ranked around your rank from last season. Because you already were bronze last season, going 3W 7L is not enough to get into silver, because the system already knows that you are a bronze 1 player. The system doesn't have to assume that you are probably of average skill level (silver 3 0LP), it already knows your skill level. For players like you the 10 first placement matches are the new season are an opportunity to start on a high MMR (high MMR = win more LP/win than you lose/loss). How does that work? The system actually ranks you lower than what it thinks your skill level is. Therefor your MMR is higher than the average skill level of your division, and the system will try to get you into a rating you deserve as quickly as possible by giving you lots of LP. Riot designed the system this way so that players can start each new season with a running start and feel motivated to play.

Hope everything is clear now, if you got more questions feel free to ask, I know the ranking system can seem highly confusing. Also KDAs don't influence your rating at all.
