A question for ADC mains: What are your thoughts on mage supports?

Now I play support in most games, so I'm already biased with my own question, but because I play ADC the least, I want to know their general thoughts of being paired with a mage support in the bot lane.

You know the mages I mean. Your Vel'koz, Veigar, Brand, etc. True mages who can only build AP and are primarily an extra damage dealer for their team. There may be more complex scenarios than that, but I'm sure you know exactly what I mean by a mage support.

As a support, I feel that I need extra perspectives from the one role who's most affected by the support. What are your general thoughts, experience, and concerns when these are supports you get in the bot lane? Good and/or bad, how have they influenced the game, or what could or couldn't they do for you that you needed them to do?

I'm trying to be as broad as possible with this question because I want to get as many answers as I can.

I fking hate having a mage support. That being said whenever I get autofilled support I go xerath. Its because mages aren't really supporting you, they're just being lower income carries. But if you don't know your adc and he's got a chance of being an invalid then thats a good thing, however if you're the adc and you're good, it doesn't help you hardly at all.

Dont misinterpret this as mage support lanes are weak lanes, but if you're that mage you better be landing your shit and carrying to a certain degree, or you're really making it hard.

Personally, I think it can work, but it depends on the matchup and synergy. If the enemy has a Pyke, there's very few champions I'd rather have than a Veigar supporting me, but against somebody like Sivir or Tristana that can avoid the mage's damage and counter the extra pushing power the mage provides makes me long for a shield or a heal I can go trade with.

I've also encountered plenty of mage support players who are simply midlane players that got autofilled to support. They just play whatever they want and call it a support, sometimes without even building a support item.

If somebody is legitimately wanting to support and the matchup favors it, then go right ahead, play a mage in the bot lane. If they're just trying to avoid playing a supportive champ at any cost, then I have some issues.

I honestly prefer playing with tank supports instead of mages, i feel like tanks work better with most scaling adcs which is what i play. But when i play early game adcs i feel mage supports are better since they can really poke the enemy down early to get kills in lane early. Late game adcs really just need a meat shield to body block all the damage for them. Although some adcs and supports do have really good synergy off their kits such as morg and cait or lulu and kogmow.

It's not a thing. The point of support is that you don't have the budget to become a proper ap threat and if your champ's kit doesn't have the utility to be useful on support budget, that champ is not viable as a support, aka a troll pick for the role.

It depends on the player for the most part, but I don't like them overall just because of the damage. If my support hovers Lux, though, its an instant no due to my past experience with Lux supports. I will ask them to switch to a different champion, and if they say no or tell me to fuck off, I'll either ban her or dodge. I just don't want to take the chance of them being a pain in the fucking ass.

I don’t usually have an issue provided they land things, the issue comes when they try to be the ap carry and start playing from far behind me, missing every skill shot, and applying zero pressure
