Can a new LoL player ever be as good?

I am a relatively new LoL player, I started playing towards the end of season 2019... I was wondering how a new player can catch up with the experienced ones who have been playing for years? Also, how do I know whether I'm actually good at the game or if my team is carrying? I would love to hear any advice

There's a lot more resources to learn the game with now than there was several years ago. Streams, guides, data aggregates like lolalytics and u.gg, etc. You just have to avoid falling into the habit of ignoring your own mistakes and blaming your team like so many players like to do. Also having a duo partner is nice.

Of course.

It'll be a rocky start for sure. I started at the beginning of season 6. Went from Bronze 5 up to Silver 4 by the end of the year. I then hit Platinum 5 at the end of season 7 (it's a lot easier to climb once you know what every champion and item does, and what champions combo well together such as Leona MissFortune or Caitlyn Morgana) . Depends on how much you play, how consistent you are, and how much you enjoy the game. Yes, how much you enjoy the game will make an impact, if you get tilted/angry/frustrated easily then learning will be rough since you spend more time being angry than realizing what you did wrong.

Don't be intimidated by players who've be playing for a long time, it doesn't mean they are good at the game or that they have learned anything meaningful in that time. I'm Plat, and that doesn't mean I'm a pro or anything, but I'm better than a silver player whose been playing since season 1, and it has nothing to do with play time, it about learning the game. I'm actually ass mechanically, but I know where and when to be somewhere, and that's the best way to learn in my opinion.

As to how do you know if you're playing well? If you feel like you're getting carried in every game but have like a 60% winrate after 200 games. You aren't getting carried every game, if you were to AFK at level 1, your winrate would be like 30% or less so you are a main contributor in winning your games. As a new player though, I'd be less concerned of if you're getting carried, and more concerned about what the fuck the enemy champions do and what your teams champions do. Essentially, just embrace that you're garbage at the game and just be concerned on learning, we all had to get to a point where we can instantly understand a situation.

I am a pretty new player, just watch some guides, and take your time to learn the synergy of skills+items. Then mix them together and pull off some sweet plays. It takes time to get good, but there is a reason higher elo players are segregated from new players. If you lose, it is what it is. Try to learn from it, rewatch the tape, and figure out what it is the enemy team did to win. It's better to be over prepared, rather than spend your time wondering why this game is so unfair. If there is a champion that you can't deal with, ban them. If there are several champions that hard counter you, learn their mechanics, and how to out maneuver them.

Because in every game you play, there is only 1 common denominator, and that is you. Don't tilt, don't feel down, and use your failures as a guide to your success.

Notice how I didn't say don't feed? It happens, we all get hard countered every now and then. Just approach the game with an open mind and mute pings.

depends on how fast you learn

Yes

Will it happen quickly? Prob not. But that depends on who u are, and who ur trying to be as good as.

Moe(yassuo) started playing S4 and i think got dia either s5 or s6 and then chall a season after.

Trick to this is to play a very small champ pool so ur learning the game, not how to play the champ. And to spam alllloooottt of games.

Whether this shits worth it or not is another question. Unless u wanna be a streamer or a booster or somehow get money out of the game, i havent found try harding to climb to be that fun.

If i could get riot to put a lock on my lp i would. Climbing is an unfortunate consequence imo lol.

if you play more games with an attitude of trying to improve and recognize ur mistakes after every game, u will become good very fast

every game has something to learn from, even remakes and 3v5s (can learn enemy jungle pathing, which players to dodge)

If you really want to get better, I think you have to watch your own games, OBJECTIVELY. I think a lot more people understand the game from a spectator view point, than from a playing view point.

All the misplays, poor positioning, blaming, and general bad play you might levy onto your teammates, you will see and notice if you watch your own replays. Stuff like running from a fight full hp and blaming your team, and then you watch it back and see that you could have won the fight and you were wrong. You blaming people for roams/ganks when you watch it back and see people pinging, see you having a ward in your slot and you didnt place, etc. You blaming lack of peel and you watch it back and see you just had terrible positioning, etc.

This is probably one of the best ways to get better at the game. But, to be honest, I dont do it. I dont have time to waste an entire game's length looking at my misplays when I just want to play a new game. But, I'm also an older gamer. Being a professional or pouring my life into league at this point is just not in the cards.

i think a new player can catch up to and be better than the vets that have played for years.game isnt as forgiving now for mistakes as in the past which means a player is forced to learn at a faster rate and with smurfs in every game while leveling makes for an even tougher experience.which gives you more chance to learn the game at a higher level.also depends how good you are at picking up these kinds of games.a new player would need a high threshhold for frustration as there will be plenty of it.
