What do you think of the Pewds vs Firewatch scandal?

Hello, first GD post but this got my blood boiling so i figured i would ask around here.

If you want to know what happened in case you dont. Pewdiepie in a stream said "the N word." Now I don't really like Pewdiepie and what he said was WAY off limits. However Sean Vanaman a developer for the game firewatch had this to say.

https://twitter.com/vanaman/status/906983575337107456 (If you follow the link it leads to a much longer string of comments of what Vanaman fully said.)

Now this IMO is a really scummy thing. There are a million ways to not endorse Pewdiepie, as well as not associate with him. But a 0 warning DMCA claim when THIS: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DJZxjHPUEAAPbSW.jpg is on your website is just a dick move.

So because someone several months if not years into the future said something you dont like you will instantly DMCA them? Im sorry but that is setting a dangerous precedent for other companies to follow suit.

This hurts new and smaller creators 1 million times more than it does PewDiePie. And personally if Sean liked streamers and gamers like he said he does he should find other less scummy ways to deal with it.

The legality of doing this is still being debated and we dont even know if Pewds will fight it. I hope he does and win since this is quite an unjust and dangerous thing to do.

So whats you guys' thoughts on this?

No, if they take it to court Felix will win. There is precedence against them and the fact they openly endorsed it in the past only justifies they have no grounds.

Fair use is in full effect even without that statement as permission is not required.

OK lads, just a reminder that the discussion should be limited about the DMCA itself and the situation between Firewatch devs and PewDiePie, rather than discussing the usage of the word itself.

F A I R U S E A I R U S E

Edit: wait the game he was playing was PUBG? Considering the brainlet dev banned someone for "stream sniping" despite no real evidence i'm not fucking surprised

It is scary/interesting that a word that should have no power can cause trouble. A word I assume wasn't directed at anyone specific on top of that.

As is common in modern society, everyone involved is in the wrong.

And also a fucking idiot.

I don't think they'd win, but I think something needs to be done about pewdiepie. He's the one who started the youtube adpocylpse and he's just causing more and more trouble for other youtubers.

The developer honestly sounds bitter.

On their very own webpage they say they support streamers/gamers showing off their game.

#On the other hand. Pewdiepie saying the N word is unacceptable. Period.
