QUESTION: Is Auto Fill bad for Ranked play?

I'd like to pose a question about the auto fill mechanic that's been put into the game. On the surface, it seems great. It allows players to try new roles, and increases the frequency of games played. However, I think there's a huge problem that's been overlooked, and that's the way some players (Iron/Bronze/Silver) react to being auto filed in the first place. Either 1- The player doesn't know how to play the role they filled into. 2- The player is a one-trick and decides Karthus Jung is a viable option 3- the player asks for a swap, gets denied, and decides to troll the entire team for sweet sweet revenge. Now, I know this probably only applies to a percentage of overall players in league, but seeing as this is a team game, it's very important that every player is at least on the same page as far as team comp, strategy, etc. And I just want to pose the question, "Is auto fill good for ranked play?" We've all been in a situation where the game becomes a 4v6 because someone on your team got auto filled and pitches a fit about it. As a support main myself, I don't typically get auto filled into a different spot (Support is the least picked role) But if I had a quarter for every time I've had to carry an auto filled ADC or deal with laning with a Darius one trick, I could afford to buy a switch and just play Smash bros. lol How would you guys feel if Riot removed auto fill just from ranked play? Personally, I would deal with fewer games and longer queue times if it meant having a more cohesive team experience once i'm actually in game. I'm no expert, just a player trying to climb the ranks. Thoughts?

I'm all for longer queue times if it means a better queue experience.

That includes no autofill, tighter MMR matchmaking, and role-specific MMR.

I would like all of the above.

The quality of a game is far more important than the number of games played IMO.

You've put together some very good points. I would indeed be down for longer queue times if it mean i have to be autofilled and have the person in my role not even be good

Auto fill is ball cancer. Single worst mechanic in the game.

Riot should never have implemented role selection. When it was draft order picks role, even in Silver last pick would generally suck it up and play support if they had to.

People knew how to play all roles, maybe not equally well but they weren't useless at some as they are now.

Removing auto fill isn't even an option. Bottlenecks would be unreal. It's not a few minutes, it would compound to hours after a while.

I exclusively select "fill" and offer to switch with anyone unhappy with their role. Teamwork OP

Isn't Karthus jungle somewhat viable?

No. I like auto-fill being there.

I feel like if you're confident as an auto-fill, it can be essential to your "role" if you're good at all of them. If a player has the option to auto-fill and can confidently do so, it may be most beneficial for them, as another player is more likely to get the role they wanted and not feed.

If no one ever auto-filled, queue times would be unnecessarily long for high elo...with players wasting hours in queue consistently.

im all for longer queue times if it means i get my role no matter what not only does it make the game better when the whole team is on their main role but will also increase the competitiveness of the game.

Trying new roles in ranked is a great idea?

I would not mind autofill if it system would grant me decent teammates. Everytime I get autofilled I always get at least 2 autists in team.
