What do you guys think of the lore?

I don't know how to describe it, but the lore feels like it lost it's magic a while ago. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the lore every now and then and some are interesting now, but it just doesn't feel the same.

I used to watch lore videos 4-5 years ago while I played league, just having the audio in the background was better than music. It was the first of it's kind to have the characters have such interesting backstories and it was my favourite part of the game. Hopping in skype calls with my old friends and them calling me a nerd for actually liking the lore. Bringing up those useless facts like "did you guys know Jax was banned from using weapons, that's why he uses a lamp" that annoys and intrigues them at the same time.

Just like the map visual update all those years ago, it feels like they tried too hard and ruined it. I don't know the right way to describe it, but it definitely doesn't feel the same.

What do you guys think?

Homebound, Dark Passage, The Climb, Shadow's Embrace, then Senna's release. But sure, keep telling yourself the lore doesn't progress. Anyone who says that or rides on the "but the constant retcons" train immediately proves they haven't thought about it twice.

For your original point, that "it doesn't feel the same", sure. Institute of War lore was goofy. It was a bunch of self-inserts and they could go wild with the backstories. Dark kid playing with a fire bear? Sure. Dude too angry to die (maybe even x2 or x3)? Haha, go ahead lol. A godlike ice phoenix fighting alongside a prince and a cop against an electrical furry and a rat with poison? No problem, and the two furries would probably win. How many times did we have the "being from a different world/dimension" backstory? How many different worlds? I can remember Kayle and Morgana, Nasus and Renekton, Taric, the Darkin, Fiddlesticks all being alien entities, and let's not get started on the void champions. But Riot decided that's not what they want: They want a real, rich fantasy universe, with myths, stories and history. And for that, the gameplay itself can not be canon, even if I understand that this is part of the original appeal of League, that your games matter. (They usually didn't, but that's besides the point).

This is where the reboot comes in. They even showed us some of the Legends of Runeterra, maybe you have heard of that? I hear it's quite a good game. So yes, of course it feels different, because it is. Riot chose a vastly different approach, however I would argue it's way better to have independent characters instead of being controlled by some shady summoners telling each other they fucked their mothers, to fuck themselves, to kill themselves, that everyone else is a "re****" and "hardstuck".

I can understand if not everyone likes the new lore. But you can't deny it is a thing, with a book coming out soon, the third comic series starting in November. There are a lot of people who enjoy it, and the Rioters behind it sure enjoy creating it.

I think people expect the lore to be extremely deep like game of thrones first few seasons. They try to expand it so far as to know the eye color of each champion or the street of the city they live on. how old they are, their sexual status etc.

I'm surprised there's anything beyond a paragraph for a game that doesn't actually progress...ever.

There is no Lore in league of legends.

what I mean by that is there is no overarching story that drives the game. The game drives the story. If you look at Warcraft, there is an overarching story that drives the players. World of Warcraft has Lore. You are a character in a vast world, and you have a goal: stop the evil from destroying the world.

League of Legends has none of this. They design the champions and create the "lore" around the champion. There is no story, no conflict, no main character. Lore is an afterthought. They're trying to create Lore, but until they establish a main storyline, the "lore" that they create won't matter. All that will matter is the champion's playstyle.

Some of the worst stories I've ever read were Camille and Neeko. Camille has her legs removed to turn them into swords, and they basically ignore that fact, even though it is extremely important. Neeko is the sole survivor of a terrible cataclysm that kills everyone she's ever known and basically her whole species, but does she care? nope lul XDDDD. They had the chance to have a champion deal with a traumatic experience and PTSD, but they just handwave it.

I don't have too much faith in Riot for making good Lore because they don't know how.
