Is Riot seriously going to let China shape how they create their game?

I would let them ban my game to prove a point. If homosexaulity is against your culture, get the fuck out lol. Not to mention they're kicking out a bunch of cool plot lines with their ban of VIOLENCE.

It isn't Riot's game anymore. It is Tencent's game. Tencent is a Chinese company. Not to mention, a massive chunk of the playerbase is in China (70-80% by most estimates).

Riot doesn't have a choice.

Have you seen what this game has become? Why do you think Riot is not listening to us in terms of reducing damage?

They already balance around their Chinese playerbase. We don't mean jack shit to them.

I dont even think there is an actual ban on it because only one real news source says anything and no games have actually said anything. I mean if the current champions were banned from playing the game dont you think that would make a bigger splash than some rumors on some fringe sites?

probably, because its a giant market. thats the sad part about this.

i wonder what the chinese government specifically wants from the game studios. this ban has probably been brought into effect to put pressure on blizzard, riot and other studios for some very specific purpose.

most of the reasons why this game is suddenly banned, have existed since the very beginning. league of legends is one of the 3 largest games in china for years. apparantly there was no problem with "females being exposed too much" or the toxicity of the chat in the past, nor loot boxes existing. so why now all of a sudden?

these chinese morality laws seem very inconsistent, open to interpretation and only being enforced when it seems suitable.

maybe the chinese government wants something specific from tencent who is chinas version of disney. they own basically everything, including all these 3 largest games.

Alright, many in the gaming community continue to miss the point of these gaming companies. The only goal of these companies is to make money. That is it. They don’t care about their game, they don’t care about morals and ethics. They do care about optics, as in how their company is perceived by consumers, but they don’t let the concept of “right and wrong” get in their way of profit. If you don’t like that this is the case that means you aren’t really into capitalism, which is fine because endlessly exploiting peoples labor to steal most of it from them by calling it profit is BS and when there is nothing left to exploit just leaving them behind. What EA, Riot, Blizzard, etc want is not even more money, they want ALL the money just as ever other corporation on this planet. So, they will absolutely do whatever is necessary to keep the revenue stream coming in from China. If they need to delete a character they will in a heartbeat because they care about their money, not your game.

I mean Tencent does own a large amount of League of Legends stocks (last i heard, 90%?)

UlyssesISR12/15/2018, 12:27:26 AM1 votes

I doubt the developers really want to change anything. Or have any sort of issues with people being gay, lesbian, and ect. More like the higher ups call the shots and the developers either go with it or possibly get fired. Very sad situation imo.

Gaming industry in a nutshell.

I agree from a moral standpoint, but from a business standpoint, this is the equivalent to tying cinderblocks around your ankles and throwing yourself into the river.

If League gets banned there then maybe we can get rid of this one-shot meta.
