Dont ban champs in ARAM! Join the resistance!!

Well... new patch, new changes to ARAM - sigh...

Why do i think banning champs in ARAM is wrong? Lets talk about champion bans in lol so far:

  1. In ranked banning a certain champ is a good think (not kidding). Your team can make sure that the enemy team can not counterpick your laner/jungler or overall strat with a champ that gets minimal effort with maximum effect of disrupting the other team. Thats due to the hundrets of champs in lol and necessary.
  2. Bans in ARURF are ... ok... because some champs are not suited well mechanically for a spam mode and brake it - I get that. But i still dont think its necessary.

So on ARAM: ARAM is a fun mode (not kidding again). You get a champ and go with it. Maybe its superfun, maybe its boring, maybe its some in between - sometimes it sucks. The way to get around that "sucks" part was introducing rerolls (and later the "substitutes bench") so players can avoid playing a champ that is not siuted for 5v5 or they just dispise that champ (like Teemo, I would NEVER lower myself to play that). So its kind of a "ban" for champs that are no fun in ARAM. However. Giving players the opportunity to ban champs and tell em: "ban champs you dont want to play against." is not constructive. The consequence will be that only champs are affected that are fun in ARAM. Despite the fact that your ban will detract the chance for a cool champ from your own team (and thus frustrate people like me right from the start, casue I have 0 chance of getting my fav champ in that match now), its just a step away from avoiding the problems in ARAM (getting a really weak pick that sucks). Its like cause a kid is frustrated it didnt get its candy for sometimes - NOW NO ONE GETS IT!

Your thoughts on that? sry for english - it hates me

ARAM only accounts: can thank these people with 600k blue essence and 12 champs for the state of ARAM and why most people just refuse to play it. Cause turns out having 3 people in the game who are guaranteed to get a super strong pick is just dumb. The game itself is about winning or losing, if you don't understand that in its 9th year, I dunno what to tell you. So anything that negatively affects gameplay should be addressed. I might actually try ARAM again, might feel like less of a coin flip.

I'd support getting rid of bans in ARAM if all champions were unlocked for it instead.

Considering this really only impacts the aram only accounts, I'm not too bothered.

Sona had a 70%+ ARAM winrate.

Just rolling Sona on your team gave you a greater than 2/3 chance to win, despite there being 9 other random champion rolls, and 10 random player rolls.

It's entirely appropriate for ARAM to have bans.

The consequence will be that only champs are affected that are fun in ARAM.

So every champ that's god-tier in aram and it's autowin for it's user and unfun for those who need to play against it will be affected? I say GOOD JOB RIOT ON THAT ONE, maybe I will even play that mode now :D

Screw aram-only players.[slayer-jinx-catface]

The solution would be to only ban the bad champs and let the good ones go through.

I find it lame that poke mages will almost never appear in ARAM again.

Nerfing damage of some champions in ARAM makes sense, but outright banning them is the wrong approach imo.

As for Sona, I think the most sensible way of making her no longer an insta-win champ on ARAM is to increase the cooldowns on all her abilities. Something like a 50% increase in cooldowns for her spells would immediately make her a lot less cheesy and would force her to choose when to use her abilities more carefully, instead of just spamming them.

None of this is directed at OP, more of a general statement for people supporting the ban system because of ARAM only accounts.

I only play ARAM, have 105 champions unlocked, and have spent easily a few hundred on skins over the years because I have poor control of my money.

I have never even noticed ARAM only accounts (by the definition of having a barebones champion list), and have no idea why people think they are a problem, though I am noticing that it seems to be people who primarily play the competitive modes who are getting shitty about them.

If something must be done, tuning heroes down for ARAM is absolutely the right answer (it worked in the past, and they have even done it in this patch in addition to the bans bewilderingly), some champs are way too OP, but since the picks are random, it's hard to care all that much. Unlocking the entire champ roster cheats people like me who have worked to unlock the heroes they like and removes the possibility of Riot earning more money from champ purchases, so that's a hard no. The choice to implement a ban system reeks of Riot just throwing their hands up in the air and exclaiming, "It's toooooo haaaarrrd".

Don't give a shit, there are probably many others like me (filthy casuals) who spend money on the game just as much, if not more, than the competitive players. The random nature of ARAM is a huge part of the draw, getting a lucky pick and rationing your rerolls is all part of it, and the ban system chips away at that, no point hoping the next game will be my lucky Lux when I know she is probably getting banned anyway. If Riot didn't want to put effort into ARAM, they should never have opened it up as an official mode, that way I could have saved every dollar I put into the game (oh, that's why they released it). If they didn't want people to just play their product for fun, they should have designed accounting software (not meaning to discount any numberphiles out there).

If you're competitive and don't like the way ARAM is run, go to the competitive modes, ARAM was never meant to be serious, that's why there is no ranked ARAM (which would be insane to even suggest). Stop bitching and ruining it for those who play it and like it the way it is, and we won't bitch about the way SR and TT are set up and ruin that for you. You're lactose intolerant and complaining about the flavour of milk. Even if they change it to try to make you happy, you'll just end up shitting over everything.

Simple right?

So to recap, if you are competitive, there are two game formats for you to choose from, if you just want to have fun, you only have one choice, and they are quickly ruining that. If you want to be competitive AND have fun, SR or TT unranked is your best bet.

Finally, if losing in ARAM makes you rage, you really need to find more wins in your life, it's just a game after all.
