Be accountable for your actions.

I honestly do not understand why a solid 25% of these posts on the forums are OMG i got flammed and i flammed back and I GOT BANNED WTF?????

Its pretty simple people, you have the control to ignore, you have the choice to completely avoid any type of communication with these people via /mute and muting ping/emotes.

i can tell you this, you go to a game of pick up b ball or hockey ur team is clearly underskilled compared to the opponent, do you start "what the fuck dude, you cant save a beach ball." No we don't because that's not how we function as a society that is far from the norm, so what changes in the virtual world of leauge of legends?

why is it that we completely lose all respect for every aspect of a person in a virtual environment? and i think it all boils down to repercussions. People do not get punished enough in LOL and i find it rather lenient so people just say all this crap until they get banned and then they flood the boards because they have 0 accountability for their actions.

Could we get more serious bans for people uttering death threats/ over the top verbal abuse (racism, hate speech) maybe even as far as ip banning, it seems extremely extreme but i think it is a way to slowly but surely turn this community that is well known for being extremely toxic around.

It's not that they don't get punished in LoL, it's that being online in general results in an overall lack of repercussions, so they become accustomed to doing whatever they want anytime they're behind a monitor. And IP bans are an absolute joke for anybody that has any control over their service, but screws over a lot of innocent people who don't have that control - like users in net cafes and college dorms.

Riot punishes people more than loads of other devs, but they also want people to give people the wiggle room to not lose their account just because they're having a bad day. They still get punished, but that sort of thing builds slowly.

Death threats and hate speech are already zero tolerance, and result in instant escalation to a 2 week ban followed by a permanent ban for any other single infraction afterwards. They have to take death threats seriously in particular due to legal issues. This is mostly all stuff you should already know considering you've played long enough to hit lvl 89.

"But Freedom of Speech protects me from being punished for what I say!"

  1. There are exceptions to that.
  2. It only says Government can't punish you.

Your post really makes no sense if you say the n word even one time and get reported you will get instantly 14 day banned and your honor will go to 0. If you do it again the same thing happens except its a permanent ban. Even just saying cuss words will eventually get you chat restricted and your honor dropped to 1. It really makes no sense that such things are harshly punished when the game literally has a built in filter for you to avoid these words if they hurt your feelings, but whatever, go melt snowflake.

It's not refusal to take responsibility; it's that they shouldn't be punished for such actions.

Agreed... everyone I know that has quit playing league has done so because of the toxic community, and I'm about to that point myself.

League used to be a lot of fun, but that feeling has been dying bit by bit every season, because LoL allows players to remain toxic with relative impunity.

At this point, I find myself ignoring both pings and the chat window because 90% of the time it's just players flaming each other. Less than ideal, but if I don't actually see them being hateful, then I can still convince myself the game is enjoyable.

The problem is, I can't ignore it when someone acts like a spoiled brat and rage quits... happened in two of the ranked games I played yesterday... one causing me to lose my promotional series, and the other during a match where our team was ahead and on the way to victory despite that one player who was getting schooled by his opponent.

LoL could put an end to it if they truly wanted to by creating a strong Code of Conduct and applying stiff penalties for violations... such as "Rage quitting during a ranked game should result in the account being banned".
