touhou appreciation thread

I haven't ever played a touhou game, has there been a US release for any of them? Where would a good place to start be? I literally know nothing about it except some of the music and characters.

Youmu is best Touhou. Then Suika Then Remi Then Mokou Then Marisa/Satori

That's about as far as the list goes, as those are easily my favorite characters.

What I love most about Tohou is things like the Tohou Bossa Nova albums by Shibayan Records. Man, those are great.

There's some good art and music that fans have made because of it. Also it's flippin' hard.

normally im not a fan of the "magical girl/fairy/whatever" genre

but I am a sucker for shoot-em-Ups with kickass music, and Touhou is no exception
