As a support im always the most behind in levels. Im starting to wonder if I should stop going back to grab items so much and buy them 2 at a time instead?

What kind of flow do you suggest to hearthing back to the store?

Firstly, who do you main support as?

I'm a low elo support, but usually it goes like this:

Support the ADC ADCs start trading

If win: Continue to farm/push lane to deny enemy team (Do not attack minions as support unless your ADC isn't there) minions and shave health of tower. Once the enemy pops back, poke them as much as you can get away with Once out of mana, b (Usually if ADC overstays I will tell them "lets b" or "going b, be careful")

if lose: punish the winner as much as possible, back up behind tower, b

I'm assuming you're just backing up because "Ooh I have enough gold for boots" or whatever. Don't do that.

Good luck summoner!

edit: I should say if you win the trade super early, wait until ADC has enough for a BF sword or whatever; don't just instant b because levels > gold/items (generally)

Kinda a hard question to answer tbh but that's the jist

Every game is different and you can't really just tack on a rule of thumb. But you should always try to keep up in items.

An example would be the enemy ADC has 10 more cs than you and he pushes and to go back. You should try to clear the push asap and go back. Even if you're behind on CS, he's turning his gold into items, which is much better in lane than lots of gold. You don't have to push until its under their tower, just out of yours. Thus, you kept up in exp and just a little behind in time back to lane.

Sometimes it's better to push to their tower and take it. This depends on your mid/jungle and their tower health/positioning. Sometimes you should go dragon. It's tough to say.
