Ret-conning sexuality. Is it ok to change this kind of thing after the fact?

I just finished the Varus lore. I was disappointed. The story was fine, although it seems to jump forward a bit to much between pages. The issue I have is with the decision to alter his sexual preference. I am happy that Riot wants to represent all walks of life in the game, ex. race, religion, sexual preference, body type ext. I think it is healthy for the game and community. However, changing something so core to who a character is ruins them for a lot of long time fans. Imagine if they made Tony Stark gay or black or a woman in the new Avengers movie. Don't you think people would have a problem with the change. Its not the fact that the change is bad per-say, but it is no longer the character we expect them to be. If Riot wants to diversify the character lineup as far as representation goes, it should do so at the beginning. It shouldn't make changes so core to who a character is. I support all walks of life, its a good idea to add diversity, but very poor execution of Riots part here.

Should've been a new champion instead of messing with what already existed. Don't fix what ain't broke.

Going straight to gay is ok.

Going gay to straight is not.

Edit: This is not what I believe just mocking the current culture's rigid sexual beliefs.

I'm sorry are you saying Tony Stark randomly becoming a black woman isn't a "bad change per-say"?

That aside, I find the change in pretty poor taste as well. I was expecting our first gay character to be someone who was a new champion with their own identity and not a random retcon.

Oh wow it's this issue again, I was so ready to once again discuss it for another extremely popular game, cool.

Implying anyone actually cared about the lore before today. I see nothing in his voice quotes in game that can't be justified under the new lore that was justified under the old. Y'all are just whining to whine.

No it's not. It's one of the reasons why Marvel Comics division is doing so terrible in the past 10 years. Don't go down this slope Riot.

only if you are what is conisdered the norm aka straight if you do it any other way it becomes hiding your shame and oppression.

I guess I could kind of understand people being upset if like Superman, or Batman, or Luke Skywalker suddenly became gay. But Varus?

Look, the old lore for LOL was sort of slapped together half-assed. Now that they have the resources they have been working really hard to do some cool world building and create lore that is interesting and makes sense. Doesn't really impact the game at all at this point but some people dig this stuff.

Some of the champs who weren't that well thought out or who don't really fit in anymore might get retconned. I think this was a pretty cool and interesting way for them to add to their Darkin storylines and retool a champ and give him a better story.

I treat everything post-Skarner retcon as fan fiction. None of this really matters.
