Is this what the boards have come to?

Criticism is good, but not seeing top posts echoing the same things over and over and over again without any CONSTRUCTIVE element to be found and without adding anything NEW to the things somebody else already said.

Really, how do you expect Riot to respond to you if this is your level of communication?

Just reiterating the same things, just angrier every time... You know there is a meme about a certain online faction being called NPCs? There are actually a lot of similarities here. Going to the boards is like talking to a NPC in a harvest moon game. You just know what it's going to say every day. Adding to that, it is also mostly some childish nonsense as well.

Please, I firmly believe that most people here are actually capable of laying out their thoughts in a structured and smart manner. It doesn't have to be purely rational. Emotions go a long way as well as long as they are expressed in a way that let people connect instead of antagonising them.

And please don't blame Riot for your behaviour. They make mistakes, sure; at the end of the day though YOU have to better if you want anybody to listen to you (unless your only goal is to farm upvotes from people already agreeing with you).

I am not trying to attack anyone, in fact I feel like a lot of the wild frustration here comes from people who simply care a lot about the game and have to express that somehow. That is, in a way, a beautiful thing.

But ask yourself, when was the last time you read a thread here and thought:“Well this is interesting, I didn't know that/think of this like that before?“

On one hand, even when criticism was constructive Riot heavily stopped interacting once the boards beta was made a thing. Even being polite won't get a response from them typically.

On the other hand, these boards are full of hyperbolic whining that isn't constructive in the least bit. If you make arguments using math thats not THIS WINRATE BIGGER THAN THIS WINRATE, people will mash you with downvotes and refuse to communicate with you. It often feels pointless to do anything on these boards but shitpost. It doesn't help when people literally ignore facts about the gamestate and will actively lie about it. Like I don't mind if people have extreme opinions but you should actually make an argument instead of just screaming about how Riot needs to fire everyone and actually lying to other members of the community about the game.

You could tell me Irelia is UP and needs buffs for example until you're blue in the face, but if you make an actual argument or use some math I'll probably upvote you or reply. I'd never agree with that, but I'd rather have respectable posts I completely disagree with then the degenerate ones that stifle discussion we see constantly.

Is this not what the boards have always been?

Marshbouy11/23/2018, 5:29:59 PM8 votes

So what do you consider "constructive criticism" to be?

The boards is more toxic than the actual game in my opinion. Every major patch, the boards make me feel like I’m suppose to hate the game when I don’t.

It's because making reasonable well thought out posts backed by evidence doesn't work.

Go to Gameplay+ section, look at all the threads. Show me how many Rioter's have posted or did anything in there. Even when the community gives riot the feedback in the dignified and well written method that they want, they ignore it (mostly because it doesn't align with the bias's of their sponsors/investors). Unless it is some joke or meme that is masking the dumpster fire of problems associated with the game, the rioters (and Riot itself) will just ignore it.

and btw, in season 4, Riot specifically made an announcement that they intended to be more visible and communicative with the community; so them being silent right now except on non-topical memes is very VERY obvious hiding.

I've made a post yesterday about the same stuff. Boards is full of fortnite players that think this game is garbage because they suck at it. And everyday I see garbage posts like the ones that get on the front page

Does anyone seriously think RIot listens anymore? I mean the concept is laughable. Anyone who thinks RIot listens is LONG gone.

That's how it's basically always been. A lot of the people on here are entitled little kids that want to keep reminding Riot that the game has been ruined every few minutes.

Just because some people can't articulate themselves well does not mean they do not have a point.

Bottom line they're customers, just because we seem like angry villagers, who spat gibberish, doesn't mean we don't know what we're talking about.

And trust me, if 100000 people are angry, despite how well they speak, a company would listen.

People CONSTANTLY give constructive feedback. It's time Riot SEES that we aren't happy. Deal with it, blud.

Alot of people on these boards dont truly understand how to play the game but at the same time like to make these emotional opinions of the game .

too be fair, ever since season 5 i believe people have made their complaints rather clear, we're nearing season 9 now with Riot's last word being that they'd work to fix the game towards something more friendly for casual audiences over the pandering they did towards LCS, then the first thing that people saw since the preseason was an increase in damage. nothing is within limit, there is a point where anything breaks and for most of the playerbase that seemed to have been long ago. people are tired and angry, having to repeat the same points over and over and over again. at this point all that is left is just an group left angry and like they're not even heard by riot, so they lash out in anger.

People have every right to be mad? Who are you to try to silence that? Lol. Plus there’s actually a lot of good ideas out there.

K first off people have given rito feed back for example TURRENT but have they listen in the past 4 years about turrent being weak? NO THEY HAVEN'T you say people rage and criticize them for no reason but there is a clear reason, there balance team is trash that is a burst fest and if you look at the last 5 champion release + rework they were all OVER LOADED kits.

How many times should constructive posts be put forward before you give up? How many times should you be expected to give suggestions for how Windwall could be made less frustrating to play against and reward skilled Yasuo's more before you quit? How many posts over how many years?

The problem with constructive criticism (and Gameplay+ as a concept) is that the posts are just being thrown into a void. The audience for those kinds of posts is Riot, and Riot just doesn't acknowledge them - not just by not replying to them, but by not seeing anything remotely close to the good ideas making it into the game.

So people move on to target the other audience - the people on the Boards who will respond. The people who feel just as frustrated.

TL;DR: There's no point in constructive criticism if your feedback goes straight into a shredder.

Not to be that guy

But maybe the boards have become this way is BECAUSE Riot repeatedly refused to communicate to us about things that were/still are problematic and resulted in the yelling frustrations we have now?
