Guy was mad we were doing fire alarm testing

yesterday and today our property had to conduct fire/life safety inspections. This is a yearly matter that is required to stay in business.

Yesterday an old guy staying here came down to the front desk complaining that the alarms were going off and he was trying to take a nap at 2:00pm. I would've understood him being upset if not for the fact when he checked in several days ago he received a piece of paper explaining that we would be conducting these inspections on these days; there is a gigantic poster in the lobby that he frequented every day saying the same thing as the piece of paper; there are other posters in the elevators; and the day of testing a message was left hours before the testing was to start.

A normal, rational thinking person would've went out to do something that day (and every other day because you're on fucking vacation; you could've just stayed home if you're going to hang out in your room all day); but i forgot we don't get those people here.

Maintenance manager talked to him and calmed him down, but the old guy was mad that when he made the reservation several months ago no one told him it would be happening; like we were supposed to know that far in advance.

never lucky

People are ridiculous, sometimes they just need to yell and be done with it lol.

I would agree with him and blame it on management. Sometimes people just need you to agree with them even if you don't.

Would you say he yelled your EAR off?

When the customer yells at you, it’s time to troll.

  1. Answer salt with sass. Raise that eyebrow. Cross those arms. Make your voice freak and croak.
  2. Play dumb. Ask lots of questions with obvious answers. Make blundering rebuttals, then forget the person said earlier.
  3. Prank the jerk. Tell him that there will be more tests on his floor because his fire alarm is ‘iffy’ and needs tests in ‘night mode’.

Preferably, he leaves the business and never comes back. Ideally, he does so because you and then security got to enjoy his frothing, screaming meltdown in the lobby.

After working at a grocery store for 9 months I've come to this conclusion:

Some people are huge dicks because they need to vent to someone who won't slap them.

I've had people demand, not ask, DEMAND I go check for something after I tell them we don't have anymore after they beckon me and say "come here boy". Then they call the manager (because I guess he's gonna wave his magic wand to make more of this product appear), who has to ask me the same question and I give the same answer, and then the customer calls me a terrible person (someone told our cashier he should kill himself) and I go back to my life and just make fun of them in the back room and on the floor.

You didn't know it months in advance?

Seems to me that a YEARLY matter, a matter that is required every year. Would in fact be known about a year in advance. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to suggest to management that they hold their fire alarm tests on the same day every year, or at least schedule it a few months in advance so that customers can be told before they book. That's just good business sense.
