Lets Talk About The State Of League Of Legends
So First off I want to acknowledge Riot for their "Attempt" at the new rune system. Most the runes are fun and make new champions viable again, and almost every champion playable. It also makes it easier for new players to get into the game. However, there is something they may have overlooked when creating this system..
I have been playing since S1, I have been Gold+ Every season peaking at Diamond 4 when I played the most in season 4. I have never felt so frustrated at the game as I have this preseason, and let me explain my thoughts as to why this is.
The biggest thing I have noticed over the course of the time preseason changes have been implemented is a lack of length in my games. I mean games haven't had an average length of 35-40 minutes since season 1 and 2, but what I am saying is this season every game (I don't mean most, I mean EVERY game) Feels like It is decided in the first 10 minutes.
Snowballing has felt like such an issue honestly. Give one carry, or jungler a slight advantage early on and the game is already over. I get it is preseason and all, and these are new changes that will be worked and tweaked before season 8 begins, but I honestly do not see how they are going to fix this.
This is the first season we do not have the runes of old we have become familiar with, Lets talk about that... How often did you find yourself in a ranked game and say, "Hey, you know what would be a great time? If I played a few games with straight AP Marks, Seals, Glyphs and Quints!" Probably never because that would be detrimental to your early and mid game.
What does that leave us with? A system where everyone has stacked out new runes that boost our attacks and such but we are all glass cannons until we get a Zhonyas or other defensive item. For champions who have core items they need to rush ASAP to be effective, this feels awful when your mid or bot lane goes 0-5 in the first 10 minutes. Because not only are they going to keep falling further and further behind and snowballing the enemy team harder, you have no defensive stats to tank their insane damage. This problem only multiplies when the fed champion is someone who naturally builds lethality. Cough Miss Fortune
There is little comeback mechanics in the game currently if your team doesnt preform well in the first 10 minutes of the game. As someone who has always been a firm believer in don't surrender in ranked, you never know what will happen.. It's hard to not want to give up and start a new game when its 15 minutes and people are already pushing the nexus.
I hope Riot looks at the average length of games in the preseason and asks themselves why games are much shorter, or if they could even see how many 15 minute surrender votes are being called on average.
Anyways rant over, just wanted to share my thoughts and see how other people are feeling about the start of this preseason so far.
Cheers, Wobbleskank
