Summarizing the Pax west incident from my view (I am Joememer on reddit where I also posted this
The whole affair began with Riotgames announcing on short notice a female and non-binary only workshop event at PAX west. This news was misinterpreted by many to mean that Riot was excluding men from participating in an event originally planned to host both genders that men had already pre-paided for. The tweet announcing this spread like wildfire due to it's wording sounding less like "were encouraging girls to come do a fun workshop with us to encourage them into working in the video game industry" and more like "No males allowed get out losers" This led to people getting very angry at riot and r/lol and boards "revolting". Instead of clearing up the confusion, Daniel Z. Klein escalated the situation with very inappropriate and offensive tweets directed at people thinking riot was being sexist towards men. In the confusion Riot employees started in PM'S praising Daniel Z. Klein (Who was still being terrible towards the community and insulting it) and condemning the boards for being sexist. Riot was very late in making a response to the matter, which caused it too escalate uncontrollably. ;tldr; we can learn 4 things from this: 1: A single miscommunication is all it takes for a dumpster fire to occur, Riot should react faster in the future. 2: Daniel Z. Klein, had he said the things he said in-game, probably would've been permabanned and in most peoples opinion, He should be fired. 3: Many Rioters seem to hold contempt for the league of legends community. 4: People have extremely different definitions of sexism, we need to work together to find the best definition for future discourse on the matter. (I skipped some other things like Froskurrin for times sake) And that was my view on the PAX west matter, Happy labour day everyone.
