Warring Kingdoms Katarina Chroma needs default skin???

In the Lunar quests, you can get silver coints to upgrade 96 to 1 gold coin. One gold coin is used for chroma warring kingdom skins and icons. I got the warring kingdom Katarina because I like it but I didnt buy the default warring kingdoms skin. And I dont have enough or time to use real money to buy anything.

Do I really need to buy the default Warring Kingdoms Katarina skin to use to chroma? Thats just lame..
