Nexus Blitz Thoughts
I've been playing a bit of Nexus Blitz, and honestly, I'm very impressed over all. The jungle is much more dynamic, similar to the original Twisted Treeline (which I dearly miss) and the events keep you on your toes so you don't fall into a false sense of security. It's also nice giving the junglers a bigger playground to move in.
However, it has some severely rough edges still.
The events are often completely one sided and can simply hand the other team a win. This is particularly true with the ring of fire and the king of the hill. If the center of either of these are at or behind the enemy turret, the game essentially just declared that team the winner.
The Jungle really doesn't have any impact on the game. Most of the game's that I've played quickly turn into a bent mapped version of aram where everyone just wanders between the two lanes. The jungle tower looks like a promising feature, but since it's untargetable it means that it loses the opportunity of being an additional jungle objective.
Speaking of jungle objectives, there's really only one, the red buff from the bramble back. Blue buff is a top lane objective considering it just sits there watching the chaos like a bored roman emperor. The rift is only slightly more concealed behind a tiny patch of grass.
The red buff should be at the bottom of the map watching the bot lane, and the rift should be where the bramble is.
Finally, the events. The events are conceptually speaking, perfect. They strike a good balance between dire and fun and give great rewards as well. It gives a feel of the Alters on the Twisted Treeline or Ascending in the Crystal Scar. Unfortunately, they are a bit too chaotic. The chaos is good, but it needs to be slightly tempered. Instead of making the events completely random, make them tiered. Create smaller events that have less impact and greater events that have more impact so that the players can make tactical decisions on what to contest and what to give up, similar to how dragons work on the rift.
Overall, I think the game mode shows a lot of potential and is very impressive for its inovation, but at the moment, it's just frustrating because it feels like your fighting the game more than the other team.
What do you all think?
