Would it Break Aurelion Sol if he could instantly detonate his Star?

Aurelion Sol's only means of self-peel (outside of his ult) is his Q, Starsurge. It's an AoE stun that detonates when he reactivates it or it reaches his Outer Limit. However, A-Sol can't reactivate it immediately. There's a short delay, meaning he can't really hit enemies in melee range.

Would it break him if he could? It would make him feel a lot more smooth and in-control of his kit, and would give him some recourse against assassins.

Even if the stun duration/damage scaled with the size of the star (so point-blank stars did a mini-stun, while stars you babysit across the map are nukes), I feel like it would be a big improvement.

Considering he was a top tier champ for quite some time until his recent nerf, I'm gonna say a change as drastic as that would definitely break him. A big part of the counterplay to him is closing the gap, and being able to use his stun in melee range would make it way too easy to keep melee champs in his stars without his ult.

He probably wouldn’t have any counters if that happened (other than Fizz. Fuck Fizz)

Probably, and it's an intended weakness and thus it will stay.

There are ways to play aorund it anyway, for example i usually start moving backwards so if they start to chase i can cast Q and catch them almost every time.

That would remove one of his specifically intended weaknesses, so yeah It would break him

That's how he was released. And shortly after nerfed because the close combat champs that were meant to destroy him if they got inside his stars were just countered by this interaction. It meant he had no counterplay. He already has his ult to make distance. His Q being double-castable is a tested and failed idea.
