...he becomes the worst champ in the game.

This is really frustrating as a Ryze player. Even his win rate for diamond (top 1% of players) is 46%.

Presumably Riot want's champion diversity at the pro level to make the competitive scene more interesting to watch. However I think there's some fact's that are important to point out

  1. The pro's still lack champion diversity; They only pick a handful of champs out of 140, and basically ignore the other 100.
  2. When Riot balances around the pro's the game becomes massively imbalanced for the regular player (see Azir, Kalista, Ryze)

It appears Riot currently has no new solution to issue #1 and #2 above. They are trying the same thing (tweaking champs with buffs, nerfs, or redesigns to flatten the skill curve). After 8 seasons of attempting to balance for the pro's and regular players at the same time I think we can admit it isn't working.

I don't think anybody can dispute the points above. So I think it's time to try something new... but what to do?

Would Riot consider a variable number of lockout/bans for pro play? For example in a pro best-of series in the 1st game they get 10 bans but by the 5th game they get 50 bans (40 previous bans + 10 new). Or alternatively lockout champs that were previously played in the best-of series (possibly only for the winning team)? Doing something like this would force champion diversity on the pro’s (which I suspect is the primary end goal of the attempts at pro play champion balance). Then Riot would be free to balance for us regular players without having to also consider the pro balance.

Sound interesting? Any other ideas?

Ryze is strong as fuck and win rate is not a correct correlation of champion strength

As a Ryze player, you should know that. It's really just that his ultimate isn't suited for solo queue that he's seeing poor results. His kit is strong as shit sans ult

This sounds like a more "solo queue ryze players need to git gud" situation tbh

#LCSBIGPLAYZ$$$$

Like seriously. Can't they just disable him in LCS instead of gutting him for the rest of the playerbase?

His winrate is low in solo queue, and low elo. But it's average in high elo, and above average in premade high elo.

I wasn't very clear. High ELO to me is like Plat (top 3%?) and Diamond (top 1%) of players. Ryze's win rate is pretty bad even for those brackets.

Then there's master/challenger level players which is 0.1% of the playerbase I think. Ryze is good there for challenger skill players w/ organized teams. But it's such a small percent of player base I think the 99.9% of us should outweigh those 0.1%.

Regarding should Riot balance around case #1 or #2... I also think they should balance around case #1. But I don't think Riot does. Look at Azir/Ryze/Kalista all nerfed into oblivion purely due to are due to pro play. And a lot of the highest win rate champs for regular players aren't touched (since pro's don't use them) like Nami, Brand, Udyr, Fizz.

When they nerf a 44% average win rate champ (Ryze ranked #139/140), while leaving a 54% average win rate champ (ranked #1/140) alone they really appear to be balancing by case #2, not regular players and average win rate.

Most people don't care... but if you were a Ryze main you'd be as upset as me :P
