What's the point of using 5-star Heroes?

I mean you can get unlimited power faster if you just use a 4-Star version and grab the 5-star variety's weapons and abilities. Unless you're using Anna, Sherena or Definitely Not Chrom, you have a much, much better chance of rolling a 4-star version of that character. I've gotten so many 4-star Camilla's that at this point the 4-star one at level 40 has like 10 attack and 5 of the other stats up on my level 40 5-star simply from merging them.

Except not every unit has a 4 star version and if you can stack 4 stars then you can stack 5 stars.

Higher stat totals. More ouch. Weighed better in arena. Depends on the unit.

That may or may not be true, depending on the unit. There are a fair number of units that only have 5 star versions, so stacking the 4 star up isn't an option. 5 star units have never been necessary, it's just easier initially to use them because of higher stats, and because they have access to all their abilities sooner.

There's also the situation with passives, weapons and specials often requiring 5 star for the third rank, so inheritance is somewhat gimped if you only use the 4 star. At least I'm fairly certain inherited stuff still has the same requirement.
