I'm wondering if mmr is only determined by wins and losses. Or if gameplay has some affect.

I don't think this has any impact. As I understand it, MMR is a number that gains or loses a static amount of points when winning/losing. That system is working in the background and decides, how many LP you will get/lose after winning/losing. If your MMR is lower than your actual rank, you gain less LP when winning and lose more when losing. The other way around you gain more LP if your MMR is higher than your actual rank.

You can actually use this to your own advantage. Keep in mind that you only gain/lose points when winning/losing. So everything that changes your LP without changing MMR OR something that changes your MMR without changing your LP is a direct manipulation in a certain direction.

example for LP change without touching MMR: Dodging. You can dodge multiple games to lose LP but keep your MMR. So next time you win a game, you will most likely gain more LP than before. There's just one downside: the waiting time after dodging. But in the long term, this benefits your ranked career.

example for MMR change without touching LP: being at 99/100 LP. You might be frustrated about winning a game and then being stuck at 99 LP but that's the best that can happen to you. Because you will still gain the same amount of MMR but ONLY get 1 LP on your next win. That means you're working towards gaining more LP on your next win without doing any additional work. Also, when being in your promos, you also improve your MMR on wins without gaining any more LP.

btw- this doesn't fall under "MMR manipulation" defined by Riot Games and therefore is 100% allowed. (btw- it doesn't manipulate your MMR, only your LP/LP gain) Dodging isn't forbidden and the only downside is waiting, so don't hesitate on dodging games where your teamcomp already screams "LUL your teamfight is trash and mid and top will most likely lose their lane" or when you're against champs you know you'll struggle. :)

Sorry for that wall of text on your simple question. I just had this in mind and thought it would be worth sharing on the boards since not a lot of people know this and very often fear dodging because of a few LP they might lose.... ^^

MMR gain/loss is also determined by your MMR relative to everyone else's in the game. Some games are considered "easy" (usually when you're on blue side) and some are "hard" (red side). Losing an easy game results in a bigger MMR loss but lesser MMR gain if you win and the other way around for hard games.
