When is Thresh a bad pick?

You can out poke a Thresh but it's a skill match up depending on if you are better at dodging his Q than he is at landing them.

Thresh loses to Sona if the sona is good at positioning in lane and abusing his windows. She can out poke him heavily and after 6 can easily turn around his engaged with her ult. She also scales the best out of any of the enchanter supports due to having good AP dealings and being a general Aura champion. If she's passive or careful to poke behind minions when his hook is up, she wins because she has more damage and better sustain than he does. If she abuses him during the time his flay and hook are down, she always wins. Thresh is deceptively squishy early because his souls give him free defenses as the game goes on, I believe. He also has only the sustain of his pits and if he takes relic, he has that too.

Morgana's black shield also shits on him.

Thresh is fairly weak into all ins. He's absurdly squishy especially now that Relic is a defunct item on him. He also can't poke very well so if it's a good poke mage.

Thresh is strong when he lands Q.

In my experience he just has a lot of really bad players. I've played against swiftie and he did NOT feel like a bad pick. Aftershock making him (and anybody) near invincible combined with bone plating makes him survivable in all-ins and his damage is nice to boot. A lot of his counter matchups are pretty popular right now though. Unlike blitz he can't instant R into hook to get rid of sivir/morg shields (or prevent them from being used entirely depending on distance) and there are some tanks who can just engage on your adc if you get a hook on theirs.

the problem with thresh isn't the power of his hook or lantern, it's the fact that he has an empowered auto and gains ad/armor from collecting souls making extended trades with him like fighting a second tankier adc in the early game. So you have to outrade him with high damage/low risk champions.

is an annoying match up. is alright for most cases since thresh mostly builds armor. black shield. is so annoying. I hate her plants. shield. Over all thresh is the king of support and will continue to wear his crown where he will laugh in you face. Special mention to for she is the queen and you CAN bully thresh in lane if you play it smart.

I love match ups against Thresh when I play Morg.
