Anyone play Warframe? Is it worth getting into?

Tried it years ago and didn't think much of it but I have seen a lot of positive news popping up for it recently. It seems to have a pretty loyal fanbase, I heard it was really obtuse and hard to get into though kind of like Eve.

I am trying to hedge my bets, I want to have a looter/grinder game to fall back on and I am afraid Destiny 2 isn't going to cut it. I already preordered it but I haven't seen a single positive thing said about it so far so now I'm getting scared I wasted my money. Should I just wait and see if it gets better or give Warframe a shot? Can you get a lot out of it without spending money? I'm pretty broke atm so I won't have any cash to throw at it for a while.

Yes.

One of the best free games in existence, it has been on the top of steam for over a year (it is about 5(?) years old). Voted best MMO by someone people may care about last year, despite not really being a normal MMO.

It is nearly 100% free, like League - the only things that require real money purchases are a few special limited-time cosmetics and fan-made skins, which are typically of very high quality and worth the price.

Destiny was a shallow cash grab ripoff of it.

Oh, and it runs on a toaster while looking great. A GTX 550 Ti can get 60 fps on mid settings, intel HD can run it playably.

There is a huge update with the first open-world instanced map coming soon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_aSO6GJmlg

try to clear at least the first planet on your own to get a feel for the game.

Things to know when first starting

You get 50 starting plat. Use it on a warframe slot and 2 sets of 2 weapon slots (4 weapon slots in total )since you can not trade this plat. This is generally considered the best use of the starting plat by most players

If the mod is damaged there is a better version you can get later. Don't level the more than you have to if they are damage.

Don't try to get any mod to rank 10 as your first priority. It is more efficient to spread out the endo over several mods that are all rank 7 instead of getting one to rank 9.

ALWAYS get something to level 30 before selling it. if you do not level it to 30 you will someday have to make another one.

The game is pay for convenience. Everything outside of founders items that have any kind of impact on game play can be obtained through the shop or trades.

Try to join an active clan. It will make the game more enjoyable.

I personally found the grind to be too much in Warframe.

I know it's a grinding game, and I went into it wanting to grind, but it was just too much for me. I spent something like a hundred hours unlocking Ember and was just like 'nah, if that's the standard, I'm good'.

That said, I have not played it for three or four years (I think I tired it out for like an hour when the arcwing released but that doesn't count, I didn't even get around to unlocking the arcwing), they may have made it better and I do think their open world update coming up is interesting.

Sweet thanks for the info, planning on checking it out tomorrow. I'll bump if I have any questions.

It's a fun game for short term. There's no lategame to speak of basically because everything is so ezmode, loot % is astronomically low. The devs try to milk the players as much as possible every time with extreme power creep every patch.

ugh. Ive put 1.5k hours into it. I dont feel like going back. Its not that I have everything, its just that theres no proper late game. Plains of Eidolan is suppose to fix that... but we'll see

I actually just started warframe after a tilting game in league, it's really fun, and can burn some time off if you need to do that! You should try it, and if you don't like it, it's free so no harm done

Well for starters your experience will be a bit different depending on your platform since the community sizes are naturally different. Another thing is that mouse/keyboard is essentially easy mode controls, and the difference in difficulty becomes very apparent with riven mod challenges.

I'd recommend you go back and try it again though. Things have changed over the past couple of years, most of it for the better. One thing to note is that there's a major update coming that'll be adding an open world aspect to the game, so you might want get into it sooner rather than later so that you'll have adequate gear options when that time comes.

Edit: If you play on PS4 you get a free chunk of plat, but don't waste it on cosmetics or foundry rushing. Buy warframe and weapon slots. You'll never have enough slots, so they're always a good investment.

It's a real grind starting out but the nice thing about its f2p model is the premium currency is tradable, and the community has built a trade economy around it. So you can unlock cosmetics without spending a thing if you put in the time.

If you do end up picking up Warframe, you should try to get the Hydroid frame, ASAP. It is the best frame in the game, and unlike most other frames in the game, its made up of materials that decay over time, meaining you can farm for the materials, have them decay, and farm all over again.

So tried it out for about an hour last night. Got to the point where I got that controller thing off my char. Looks like there is a lot of depth to it, I had no clue what to do with my char so I basically just threw a mod on where I could and forgot about the rest. Can I just focus on using one weapon like my sword or rifle or do I need to use all the weapons my char has? I mostly used the sword and didn't seem to have a problem but the rifle was pretty strong too but I just didn't feel like I needed to use it when I can move so fast and get right up on mobs in an instant.

It's pretty trash, honestly. The animations are janky and bad, and it's grindy as all hell. You better get used to doing the same mission again..and again..and again, just hoping for that one item to drop. It makes WoW grinding look tame by comparison. You also have to wait literally days for certain things to finish crafting, also. Makes no sense why they thought implementing a mobile game style waiting system would be a good idea.. oh but you can pay real money to complete it right away!!

Destiny 2 or borderlands 2 are both far superior games, albeit not free to play.
