Because silver isn't good.

I have to agree with this, it's really annoying! Especially with Riot's thinking of "new players will be placed in Iron or Bronze". I jumped on a side account to finally play some ranked and I was with a mix of S3/S2 players. I had a rough game on my main role (sadly) and didn't do too well. We still won...but even with a win in S3 elo, my first placement game said I'd land around B3. How is that fair for S2's trying to climb? The difference between B3 and S2 is pretty high imo

Ive been gold for 4 straight years and they placed me in bronze 3 in flex and silver 2 in solo duo. I almost want to disregard flex because soloqueue feels like their players arent brain dead. I get ya though. Its frustrating to have to carry the heaviest luggage

Gold 3, sometimes i get level 30's in my games and one of two things can happen

  1. They are a new player and make me lose the game
  2. they are on the other team and are a smurf and carry their entire team

Riot please stop this

because silver is majority of the playerbase so average....and a unanked player is assumed to be average untill he/she finishes 20+ matches in ranked
