Everyone seems to praise the shitty lore team, but did you guys stop to consider...

That the lore doesn't fit the game? This isn't an rpg action adventure. This is a moba, where the lore style should generally be similar to Dota style, or even Super Smash Brothers style.

League currently with all its retros and what not is a collection of extraordinary individuals...or legends simply put. Many of these short stories already feature the champion as their title and don't really add anything to the mix except an unnecessary story unrelated to their title.

Riot Games will make an RPG at this point, not because the fans want it, but because the Lore Team is too incompetent to write lore fitting the game they were hired to write for.

What exactly makes it not fit?

There's a reason why lores exist. They´'re made to explain a champion's origin.

I have a very strange relationship with the new lore team. On one hand I respect the sheer amount of effort they're putting into fleshingout the new lore and world, but conversely I feel like there's frequent misunderstandings between their vision and the fanbase's vision. On top of that, and this is a personal gripe from an oldie, while there's plenty of unique ideas in the grand scheme of things the new lore ends up just being generic fantasy lore. The old lore was incredibly generic too by all means and it shouldn't be championed as the greatest thing in the universe, but the idea of the League was intriguing enough to give it a unique edge that stood out. The lore today is something you can find in all the other disposable F2P Korean MMOs that disappear after a year.

The problem with League's "Lore" is that it isn't really Lore.

There is no overarching story with League of Legends anymore. Back when the League was an arena to solve disputes and summoners existed there was some semblance of Lore; but I guess they felt that was too hard to keep up with the numerous champions they were adding to the game; coupled with having to have all those champions have a reason to do battle on summoners rift.

They just said fuck it, and now their "Lore" is mostly short story vignettes of these characters; and these stories don't really tie into one another or form a solid, singlular narrative. There is no single main objective for this gigantic cast of characters, but how could there be with 100+ champions?

Speaking of the champions themselves, the writing is very flat and shallow. All of these champions have to be ultra power and/or badass to seem cool in order to get the players to play the champions. There is no mediocre champion lore. Every champion is the best at what they do, and they're complete badasses with ultra powerful spells and suffer little or no setbacks in their lives. This makes for very empty characterizations, and further makes me believe that there isn't any attempt to have a single storyline. Some shit in someone else's story might effect one or two characters, but its very minimal.

This is why I feel that a League MMO would be a boon to the series, storywise. The Lore department would actually be able to craft a narrative, and not simply short stories about ultra powerful characters.

Meh. I haven't cared about this game's lore in a long time.
