No Spoilers Please!!

I like scary movies and stories but I really don't do well with interactive scary stuff. I have a pile of scary games on steam that I tell myself I am going to play one day like Amnesia and Dead Space but they just keep gathering dust. I tried dead space and noped 5 minutes in when the lights went out and the screaming started.

I kept seeing youtube videos about this game and that it had some weird twist but I don't really know anything about it. I was honestly getting a little zoned out just talking about poems for hours on end. I'm digging the childhood friend character the most but the pink haired cutesy tsun grew on me with her third poem about the beach. I chose to help her bake cupcakes but first I'm going over to see my friend because she was acting weird (because my teenage self is too dumb to get the message that she wants dat red panda). And I just walked into her house and the lights are off and no one is answering and I'm going up a dark stairway with no music.

I'm about to get spooped aren't I? My spoopy senses are tingling, how bad does it get? I'm thinking maybe I should wait until morning to keep going. Wew I love that rush that scary stuff gives you but sometimes it gets me too much.

How long is the game btw? Is there a reason to play (I find that a funny term for what is basically a book with still figures and background music) through the game multiple times?

Just watch Trinimmortal play it

It's not really scary, there's a difference between "Psychological Horror" and "Horror". It'll make you feel more disturbed than scared depending on how you feel about what it focuses on. It's about 3-4 hours long I'd say.

I am the reverse, I tend do well, or at least better with the interactive scary stuff, as opposed to horror movies.

Because for the most part, if I can interact with it, it also means I can "deal with it" or even fight it. While in the cinema, I'm just sitting there being helpless and watch shit happens to the characters in the movie and to myself in ways that I can't interact with. Horror games is something akin to having a bad day, it sucks and is horrifying but I can have ways to deal with it, while horror movies feel like sitting there getting tortured.

IMO.

Wow what a ride, very glad I gave it a shot. This kind of creativity blows the "AAA" games out of the water imo. Haven't had this much fun with a game since Undertale. I think I'm going to try ICEY next, I heard it recommended on a totalbiscuit podcast and I hear it does some weird stuff too.

I think it's about a 4-5hr playthrough? As is said you don't really need to playthrough multiple times unless you want to (see specific stuff/endings), which is kinda a general thing with VNs.

Just do it

Played it, got through all but the most difficult ending. As most others have said, it's more disturbing than scary. The writing was ok, and I did enjoy my first play through. I was kinda disappointing with the other choices/endings though, as it seemed I chose the intended path for the first play through, and all the others kind of forced me down the same path eventually.

also do yourself a favor and push through Dead Space, it was one of my favorite horror experiences

still trying to work up the courage to play Amnesia ahhhhh

You're almost done with the first playthrough. Then there's a second one that i'd say is slightly less long, especially since it's like 50% the same thing as the first. But yeah. No scary eldritch monster gonna pop out and eat your face while screaming or whatever. It's just... disturbing. 'specially if you can relate with the characters. :L I'd say you're not missing much if you only play through once. ...Even though I said the 2nd is like 50% the same thing. Well, that's not exact... but... you know...
It's a bit hard to explain without just saying "weird" and "disturbing" and not saying anything specific. It's different enough to be played through. Oh, I know. In the first playthrough the game kinda hides it's true nature, but in the second it doubles-down on it. Is that a good explaination?

can someone explain the just monika meme

I've heard people saying that it'll take around 3 hours of gameplay until where all the weird shit starts. If you're okay with viewing disturbing or tiny-jumpscare images, then I think you're all set to play it.

What the fuggggggg. Ah it's pulling some Undertale shit. I'm intrigued now. I think I got the bad ending. And it's doing that Undertale thing where you can't start over.

WhiteUranium12/3/2017, 5:39:53 AM1 votes

I didn't find it scary, just extremely disturbing, in accordance with the things I've seen happen to friends of mine in the past. It does come with its own sets of warnings, however.

There's no reason to play through it multiple times unless there's a specific ending you want to see.
