The Problem with Permanently Banning people. So

Hello, I have played League of Legends for around 4 years now, spending over five hundred dollars and I have just been permanently banned. While reflecting on myself and my actions I was thinking about how the system is really unfair to perma-ban people. These people could've spent thousands on their game and they will pay no attention to that or anything surrounding it.

And I thought, "AHA, I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION, INSTEAD OF PERMA-BANNING PEOPLE WHY NOT JUST GIVE THEM MUTES."

And you have to understand my point of view, I loved this game. And still, do for the most part. But having lost more than 500 dollars for being mean is absurd!

So I went to the Riot support and submitted a ticket. I was suggesting a new system where instead of perma-banning people for being toxic, why not give them mutes for longer periods of time. Perhaps 4-5 months and increasing. This way the toxic people would have a harder time communicating with their team and learn that the chat is used for teamwork purposes instead of toxic ones. I was very excited to hear their response, and all I got back was (summarized) "Oy, you've been mean to people, that's bad,_ fuck your money and fuck you._" When reading this I was thoroughly disappointed in the company that I held in such high regard. I expected them to understand my point of view and try to compromise to please their loyal customer.

I just need my voice to be heard, can we please get this idea spreading for them to keep their loyal player base from quitting because I know I am on the verge of switching to dota or some shit.

Sincerely, BîskyIsBestGirl

Or...or, you could have not acted like a child to get permabanned, that is also an option you could have done.

The problem with permanently banning people is that 'forever' still isn't long enough for these people to realize that they are not wanted in the community.

So, let me see if i understand this. Because you spent money, you feel like you shouldn't be banned for breaking the rules and just muted for a long time so you can still make use of your investment, despite the terms of use telling you that you would be banned if you were an asshole?

No.

The "Problem" With permabanning people is that we have the need of a system that involves permabanning someone.

If we didn't have problem players, We wouldn't need a permaban system, and we wouldn't have this problem.

But we do have problem players, so we have a permaban system, and so we do have this problem.

Do you guys even understand the point I am trying to get across? Whilst the people do understand that breaking the rules about toxicity will have punishments I want you guys to understand that having a mute, removes toxicity, and teach them how to not be toxic. I no longer care for league. I've moved on but I want people in the future to have a better user experience with the game. I completely understand that what I did was wrong but the communities need to understand that the people being toxic are most Likely being toxic BECAUSE OF THE GAME? So instead of getting rid of the blights, try to make them your own and teach them to be good members of the LOL community.

I agree with the statement about how the people would run down mid. Maybe I was too ambiguous but when I say perm-ban I mean to Parma-ban people BECAUSE of the toxicity in the game. Banning people because of intentional feeding is fine, they are ruining the game for everybody and there is no solution or that, that I know of.

But I believe that trying to reform people because of toxicity instead of banning them is the better solution because the player base would get better.

And the repercussion of flaming is that they would be muted which would disable their ability to easily win games so they would be put into a state of attempting to actually use the chat for clear communication instead of using it to flame others.

You know, i was permabanned myself a number of years ago (i dont remember how long, 2-3 years ago on a different account). Here's how it affected me:

1) at first i was angry, and was like "&*$# riot and league and blahblahblah" i, too, had spent a few hundred on the game back then.

**2) **i made a new account. Was still unhappy at first, but really, i just wanted to play, whatever.

3) eventually I came to terms with it. Am I still toxic? honestly, yeah. I'm just competitive, and that's how i am. Oh, and I'm bad about biting back at people who stir the pot first, especially if they insinuate I'm bad cause my personal performance means a lot to me, so if i feel like i play badly i just feel like a bad person overall. 4) but, even though I'm still a toxic person at heart, I just really try to not bring it into chat now, because I'm well aware of the punishments and how difficult it can be to live with, like permabans. Not saying "oh i can't live like this" I'm more referring to the time and money lost, and how frustrating it is. Even though I haven't been an active player in a long while, I haven't had a punishment in a long time. I still tilt, and I still open my mouth sometimes, but I just try to keep it contained and to not let myself get like that often.

5) I've thought about perma-mutes too, and I have mixed feelings on them. This is the type of punishment in overwatch, which i also play. You can be banned there too, but usually toxic people get mutes. Yeah, I've been muted on that game. It's half and half, sometimes I would be chill about it, sometimes it's quite annoying to be muted because when you can't talk at all, unlike riot's "mute" where you can talk every few minutes, you can't coordinate with your team. So people would actually yell at me, accuse me of trying to throw etc. because I'm playing a certain hero and they're like "why aren't you communicating" which can really just tilt someone unnecessarily. I think some toxic people would end up trolling as a result to vent their frustrations instead of learning much and changing as a person. You understand the punishment, i mean you touch fire and it burns right? so you avoid the behavior just to avoid the punishment, not because youre necessarily a changed person.

Me, I've just never been the type to troll, ever. I'm just too competitive. The concept of "let's just play for fun and barely try" doesn't resonate with me, I can do fun, off meta picks but I still give it everything I've got, I just can't troll. Not necessarily other toxic people. I could definitely see some other people who can't talk, getting frustrated with their team, probably getting talked down on or questioned, so they just start to troll and throw on purpose to get back at them since they can't say much. But the chat "restriction" still lets you talk every few minutes. So I dont know. Some people even those chats to still be toxic, so it makes little difference there.

Problem is, people can intentionally feed, and then what are you going to do? Mute them for intentionally feeding?

No, they deserve a permanent ban. It sucks, but you deserve to be banned if you didn’t even listen to the 14 day ban you got.

It doesn’t matter how much money you spend, whether it be $0 or $1000. You still going to get banned, boy.

Just create a new account and move on.
