''Away'' status?

Does anyone know how exactly it works now? I mean the new client. It's really irritating.. because you will be changed after 10 minutes to ''away'' status, but only if you're in League or also if you have League in the background? Or both? Some friends of mine are also changed back to ''online'' even if there are not at the computer atm, like if they get a skype message or an information from the computer themselves, something what haves to ''bloop''. But sometimes it's not like this, so does this only happen(I mean the thing with the: they seem to be online again but are still afk) if they have League opened and are away or in both situations? It's been a while since this ''away'' topic is bothering me,cause they can be misunderstandings and I hate it..
