Jokes aside, when I'm dating, I focus on qualities first. If someone has a really shitty personality, it's a huge turn off. Qualities are very important...
...but to be fair, if you're unattractive/ugly, I'm not going to date you, even if you have every positive quality that a person should have. It's just a fact that visual stimulation is just as important as qualities that make you a good person.

I hear what you're saying, but being attracted to someone is the minimum. It's mandatory. Otherwise we're just sharing genes with the best mathematical combo to achieve some other metric. e.g. "I want my kid to be smart! tall! whatever!"
It's a visual thing. Like it or not. The great news is you can change your looks pretty severely to achieve your desired result, and it's easier to date today than it has been in the rest of human history so stay positive.

I would have to disagree, someone who cares for themselves physically and mentally is attractive. ;) And seeing you don't judge by looks you shouldn't have a problem ever getting a date. The rich part don't care, but you better hold down a job and be independent and not some mooch skid living off the system or others, or in your parents basement after 18 years of age. That would be sad as hell.
