Anyone who says "riot only cares about making money" is entitled or exaggerating.

#Does riot make decisions that are clearly motivated by money? #Yes.

#Does riot only care about money? #No.

IF you think that riot is a completely corrupt company that doesn't care about its playerbase at all, than you haven't seen real corruption in games. P2W lootboxes, on release DLC, season passes, broken releases (only to get patched to playability months later), shady algorithms that encourage more money being spent, timers on when you can advance (like build times in CoC), the list goes on and on.

Riot is not perfect. Riot makes choices that are not good for the consumer, but riot is not this horrific and extremely greedy company that some people on the boards are convinced that they are.

EDIT: ITT: "Yeah but riot is still motivated by money, they aren't perfect, they still make choices/have systems that are entirely about money." #I'm well aware of that fact. They ARE NOT the worst, most greedy, worst gaming company out there like many claim. or "insert random decision that is clearly greed driven proves that they're totally useless and only care about money."

I think people are forgetting that the gemstone skins are completely optional, and during events there's promotions that gives you gemstones/higher chances for a gemstone when you buy hextech chests to help you get them faster.

I never felt obligated to spend a cent. I even bought a runepage with IP. And I think you can namechange with IP when it existed? Pretty sure I did that too.

the gemstone system is greed incarnate, some players are no doubt spending THOUSANDS to get 10 gemstones for 1 of those skins, these people who may be gambling addicts or just can't help themselves are being preyed upon by riot to get aaaaall of their money, is riot completely evil? no but by having this gemstone system they made it clear they're not above EA or WB at all since they too prey on gambling addicts and what not

Stop giving Riot money.

The only " only Care about money" is really just the Gemstone skins, Gemstones only have a 3.6% drop rate and you need 10 of them to get a skin which is arguably between Epic and Legendary quality at best which mean you would spend 10-1000 times more for a Gem skin then you would for a skin of the same quality.

Everything else is actually far more consumer friendly then most other lootbox systems and the like.

The only thing I don’t like is the gemstone skins. I somehow got lucky and managed to get assault marine Darius without spending that much, but that doesn’t mean the system isn’t that great. However, almost everything else I can live with. Besides, it’s all just meaningless cosmetics and you buy the thing you want. You’re not fully reliant on a dice role.

Riot only cares about money, the best way to make money in the long term is to have a good game that people want to play.

Riot literally sets aside money to donate for natural disasters. They don't make a big deal of it for PR, they don't do it because they get money out of it, they actually lose money by doing it.

I agree with this post completely. Riot is in my opinion one of the **better ** companies when it comes to carrying about the consumer. The reason Riot just doesn't give us everything for free is 1. League isn't free and employees must be paid. 2. Riot is STILL a company and thus works for profit. 3. Riot is owned by Tencent, Tencent is a Chinese state owned company so they are for the pure profit and are the reason for some of the more pure profit decisions (like Chromas)

buyable lootboxes are bullshit, can't believe people are defending them

I agree so much. I hate when I see people on the boards complain about how they didn't get the FREE skin drop they wanted and how we don't get enough free stuff in general. But I guess it's really greedy of Riot to include stuff like ultimate skins in their drops at the exact same drop rate as 520 ones, they should totally make the drop chance higher for expensive/popular skins. Also while we're at it they should totally increase the amount of RP we get if we send a drawing to them because drawing a red blob with "Vladimir" written on top is so much work and actually they should just gift us the skin we want instead of those extra RP. And before I forget it we should also be able to get a chest every single time we get an S because 52 free chests a year are a joke since Riot has fairies from the strawberry milk kingdom who don't need payment create their content for them. For clarification reasons, this was sarcasm and yes I feel the need to say this XD Honestly though I've seen so many games which much greedier companies behind them, sometimes I feel like Riot is actually throwing free stuff at us. I own every single ultimate skin aside from GGMF because they dropped from the weekly chests and I actually see more 1820 skins drop than anything else. People need to realize that working at Riot is not a hobby but a business and a business requires money to keep going.

It's easier to victimize oneself if you convince yourself the company that wronged you is immoral.

And most people who complain about the state of the game or being banned make themselves out as a victim.

They don't need pay2win when they have competitive from which they get a lot of $ from sponsors. And they balance 70% of the game on the competitive which majority of community doesn't care about. So they kinda are corrupt, not in the way you think tho. If they aren't must be dumb with all those dumb balance chenages like assassin update, ardent censer, guinsoo, etc.

Atleast we can all agree that Riot is better than (God forbid) EA. I'll admit, Riot has made some crappy mistakes before, and not always listened to what the community wants. But Christ almighty, EA has done a lot worse than Riot has.

League of Legends is the only game I can really think of where the game is entirely free to play, where the only advantage to spending money is getting the ability to play ranked sooner. I never feel like I have to spend money, and yet I do give Riot my money because they have something shiney that I want. Riot isn't perfect, and they ARE a company that's out to make money, but they are also the company I point to when an example of a profitable "Free to play" system is asked for.
