So I need a new car but I can't afford anything nice until next year.. Is a Honda XR650L smart?

Seriously I live in new england in the boonies but I only drive like 6 miles to get to the train for work, and I need a new vehicle for transport since mine is... horrifying to say the least

I'm thinking about a dual sport because A.) I've wanted another motorcycle for a decade now and B.) i feel like buying a 'throw away' car is a shitty idea, I'm almost at the point (Like 8 months from now) where i'll be able to afford something actually good, no more 14 year old cars with 150k, I want something i'll actually not hate.

the car market for a new truck is usually about 12-19k, but these dual sport bikes like the XR650L, which are similar to what I learned on as a kid (XR 70,80) are pretty cheap and easy to maintain. I live in a safe area near a pretty good spot for off road riding and pretty good scenic cruises too.

Is it a shitty idea to get a motorcycle in November in new england? or is it a decent idea considering my all around circumstances?
