I really like morally complex characters over cut and dry "good" ones.

Tamlin in ACOTAR is the best fucking character in the entire book series and I will fight you. He's not in the right, he's not in the wrong, he is in this moral and ethical gray area where he clearly wants to be a good guy, but also greatly lacks a lot of social awareness. He has anger issues, struggles with a lot his own demons, and fails to make life good for the protagonist of the book series (Feyre Archeron.)

He makes a lot of misguided decisions across the whole book series, but he always has good reasons. At least they are good reasons from his perspective. He makes his mistakes, he acts like an asshole at times, but in the end he ends up risking his own life to save Feyre and ends up accepting that she no longer loves him.

He's a great character. I absolutely love him.

EDIT: Especially compared to the other characters which can basically all be described as "good people who are so nice that they end up making bad choices sometimes."

This is why I like Illaoi

She doesnt give a care whether shes good or evil. She only knows one thing is true: the will of her god. Does she have personal opinions on it anyway? yeah. But she follows her god anyway, as she knows that her god is the beginning and end.

But this also begs the question that is all too real to our society(ies). Is she really doing what her god wants her to do? How much does she REALLY know about her god? Is she doing the right things? She has no way to know, and must stay on the same path, as she knows nothing else, and straying from it is very risky. So she keeps on going, testing people, preaching about motion, and hoping it is the will of her Nagakabouros.

Edit: This is why Annie is a much better character after her update

This would be easier as a discussion if I knew who you were comparing this character to.

Maybe a decade ago. Grey characters are overdone. I get it-- they're more like us. Yawn.

Fuck all that. Give me someone who is evil just because they fucking love being evil.

Try looking up Lyon from Fire Emblem.
