I have a better understanding of people's anger over big lore changes

At first I thought Varus' mains outrage over his lore changes were just a bunch of whiny babies and same thing with Aatrox and his VO changes, but I get it now. I really do.

In one of the book series that I really enjoy reading, the author keeps making these weird character shifts that come out of nowhere. One of the weird changes was halfway through the 3rd book in the series and about 1.5k pages. The next is in the 4th book after at least 2k pages. There's a lot of emotional investment there and to make weird, sweeping changes about characters just strikes me as weird.

  1. Morrgian randomly announces that she's gay (not even bi, like 100% gay). This is literally out of nowhere and in direct conflict with how she acts in the 2nd book. She courts a dude name Azriel for literally like, 500 years (immortals amirite) and is annoyed that he won't date her for the longest time, but then in the second book she's like "lol I don't even like dudes and I feel bad that Azriel likes me." There isn't even a big plot moment that ushers in this change, so there's no good explanation for this conflict of ideals.

  2. In the 4th book another character is like "i wanna be a dude now" To be fair I haven't actually read the 4th book so I can't say a lot about it, but it feels really out of place for someone who acted pretty comfortable about their gender for a long time.

Ugh, it just feels gross and a disservice to the characters to change them so radically like this.

So yeah.

Aatrox and Varus mains, I now understand your pain.

EDIT: it is worth noting that this is a romance book series so who's dating who is at least 90% of the fun (because god knows the rest of the writing is garbage) and changes like these really affect ships.

RIP Mor x Azriel, Elain x Azriel, and Lucien x Elain

I complained about both Varus and Kai'Sa's lore because they were both terribly written stories.

I don't even play Varus and when I see plot for the sake of plot I'm gonna call it out.

I don't recall anyone complaining about their lore changes.

Aatrox's voice, kit, and visual upgrade, yes.

But not lore.

I feel for Harry Potter fanatics for that same reason. J. K. Rowling goes HAM on those afterthought changes. Black Hermione still being my favorite.
