Syndra's lore inspired by Phoenix from X-Men?

We already have champions inspired by the x-men, Twisted Fate is inspired by Gambit, so i was thinking that maybe the same goes for Syndra. Her lore is that as a kid she was sent to a monastery but later she found out her master was limitating her power. Once she killed him her power was free and she became way stronger. But that's exactly the story of Jean, in the movie she killed Charles who was limitating her power and after that Phoenix was released. You think the two stories could be connected?

The idea of a person of power limiting another's isn't anything new fiction, although not sure what the trope would be called mind you. In most cases it's because they fear the outcome both for their own safety and/or the safety of their pupil/younger. The idea of "Sure they have all that power but what if they go too far." Seem her master was right.

Also, If it was based on Jean from X-men movies, that's not exactly accurate. He wasn't limiting her power, he helped her control it, I mean considering what she did, he was right. Jean has had story telling for 50 years, both good and bad, in the comics and her Phoenix powers aren't exactly the result of herself, while she was powerful, the Phoenix entity had mostly to do with that. It's complicated. Rachel was the better Phoenix anyway, Jean was always better without it.

Her leaked bio is a bit more updated. She was Imprisoned in a well in South Western Ionia - because apparently that's how Ionians seem to deal with large magical threats - then broke free.
