Somehow I unlocked a champion without buying him.

I just started playing LoL a couple days ago. I looked at my unlocked champions, and I realized that I had Garen, Ashe, and Brand. I didn't buy . So does Riot give a random free champions to beginners? Or am I the only one who this has happened to?

Brand is a free reward for leveling up to a certain point if i recall.

Brand is given at level 3. You can also get Tristana for free through the official facebook page.
