Alistar feels useless
This may be just me since not many people play him, but playing Alistar feels so useless. I love Alistar. He's my favorite champion and the very first champion I unlocked back in S1. He was also my 1st M7. I love experimenting with new builds to try and fix this feeling, but in the modern game development he feels so underwhelming.
Alistar has no range and no mobility aside from a W that also requires his Q to keep an enemy in range. His movement speed is atrocious and he is easily poked down against all the ranged enemies in lane. The hp regen from the new support items help, but it's so easy to lose health being poked out under tower.
Alistar can't perform well in other lanes except in rare circumstances, I made it work top and jungle a couple times last season, but mostly failures. When alone, Alistar is useless. He does no damage, has no escapes, and can only rely on his R which in most cases is used at the start or middle of team fights to survive long enough.
AP Alistar was gutted for being too strong. His AD bonus from using R was removed for being too strong. His heal and aoe passive were swapped with terrible versions of themselves with a stun added on top if you managed to stay in melee range long enough, however if you can't build up all 5 stacks, the pulse damage alone is completely worthless.
Alistar was ignored for so long and when finally acknowledged, only given base stat buffs to mana and rounded health and AD. Alistar has a bigger issue than his base stats. His entire existence revolves solely on whether he can land his Q+W or W+Q combos. Which he can also be interrupted on during his W charge by other displacing abilities. Once Alistar engages, he can be mostly ignored for ~5 seconds for his E stacks to build and his R to end. Then, after that is popped, ignore him for another 10 seconds before killing him because he is useless with his super long cds.
With his cooldowns so long and damage, range, and mobility so low and his passive heal being useless and only scaling with level, what is an Alistar supposed to do?
