Do ppl just not understand splitpush anymore?

Every so often it seems I get a team that just do not understand how this strategy works. It doens't happen often, not even half my games. I'd say 33% of my games I get a team which doesn't understand it, or at least that doesn't seem to. So, I guess just ask yourself this: What is splitpush? How does it work and what is it's purpose. THen ask, did you come to any of these conclusions:

It's some guy spending the entire game farming

It's some guy trying to 1v5.

It's some guy who can't play with the team

It's some guy who just want's to 1v1 and outplay

It's some guy griefing/trolling

I get a pretty big minority of people whom seem to think splitpush is one or multiple of these. Well... It's not.

So I guess the next qeustion is: What is splitpush then? Well, short and simple, splitpush is about creating more pressure than the enemy team can handle and your team making the most out of it.

Now, let me clarify. Splitpushing is a team effort. It is not a 1 man job, it is the whole team working together. If either the splitpusher or hte team don't do their parts, everything falls to shit. THe idea is this: one person, most commonly the top laner, goes in 1 lane, any lane, and pushes. Not farms, pushes.

The pushing player should be attracting pressure while hte rest of the team is ready to start off a play. A good example is a Gnar pushing at the enemy bot lane while his team pressures baron. This places the enemy team in a tough situation, which is why it works. Either they try to contest baron and let it become a 4v4. In that case, all Gnar 's team has to do is play defensively and stall. This gives Gnar time to push, poke and so on. Eventually he will break the tower he is pushing and his team is getting a victory.

The other alternativ is if hte enemy team decides to send a person bot to 1v2 Gnar. Well, that leaves his team at a 4v3 at baron and gives them a golden chance to take it while he is getting ganked. All Gnar has to do is stall and survive for as long as possible while his team takes baron and voilá, free baron.

Now, this strategy needs EVERYBODY TO BE ON POINT. If your top laner is pushing bot while his team is just running around doing nothing, everything falls apart and nothing works out. As the non-splitpusher it is your job to go with the team. Don't think

"oh, well Gnar is just soloing top all the time so I'm going to do the same bot." NO, that is not your job. He is doing that cuz that's his job. Your job is grouping. If you want to play solo and pressure a single lane, play top lane, not adc or mid.

Tl:Dr

Splitpsuh is not about solo carrying in 1v5 top lane. IT's about a team effort to pressure several points of the map at teh same time. For example, top lane pressures bot lane - enemy team sends ppl bot lane - your team takes baron.

If your team refuses to allow you to split push, play by their rules.

I've had easily-won games turn into struggles because my team didn't want to play around my split push, but since I played around them instead, we still won.

######tl;dr btw

On an unrelated note, that nami's ward score is painful to look at

It's really hard to splitpush due to all the empowered recall and homeguard changes.

Since they hardly ever see a successful splitpush (due to the above) they don't know what the results should be from a successful one.

Following Engelin's strategy is probably best for both sanity and winrate.

Splitpushing used to mean daring the enemy team to 1v5 you. Season 4 was weird.
