So I need a laptop for a college class, right? So we've been looking around for one since there's the after-christmas deals and stuffs. Nothing too fancy. A relative said their friend took the same class i'm going to take and recommended one that was similar/a bit weaker than this one: http://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/portables-et-miniportatifs/inspiron-15-5000-non-tactile-amd/spd/inspiron-15-5565-laptop/ni155565_btsb_h2860f

I just wanted to know if the processor was any good. This page should show it's stats and what not. Well, unless I looked up a different processor with a similar name but I doubt it.
http://products.amd.com/en-ca/search/APU/AMD-A-Series-Processors/AMD-A12-Series-APU-for-Laptops/7th-Gen-A12-9700P-APU-with-Radeon%E2%84%A2-R7-Graphics/195 I was curious weither or not they beat my decently old PC's stuffs. But i'm not too familiar with computer lingo. If I just compare numbers it feels like mine's better, but I feel like that's a bit hard to believe concidering it's from what... like, 2010 or 2012? Can't be any more recent than that. Maybe a bit older. (and I can only run 3D games that came out in the last years smoothly if I put the settings to low-medium, otherwise it sometimes lags and freezes) So i'm sure I must have checked something wrong. So yeah. Not really looking for advices on where to look if I want a top-tier quantum laptop - I know i'm nowhere near that (though if you got a few that are similarly priced and are vastly Superior to this one, i'm not saying no...) but I just wanted to know, like... on a scale to 1 to 10 where would it go in today's standarts, or just what can I expect from it? Am I likely to bench my current desktop computer and use this one instead or is it quite weak and I shouldn't expect to do more with it than use it for my class? Thanks.

Right, if you'd want to compare with my desktop's processor, I think it's this one: https://www.cnet.com/products/amd-athlon-ii-x3-440-3-ghz-processor-series/specs/

Then there's this one too on another laptop... https://ark.intel.com/products/95443/Intel-Core-i5-7200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz thought this one was worse, but apparently some websites say it's better... ...I really have no idea how any of this works.

if you're just using it for school and shit you can get any basic laptop

unless you're doing like advanced workstation graphics production

avoid anything that is AMD Axx or AMD FX, those processors are crap unless you are really getting a bargain (like 300 dlls for AMD FX), believe me.

a budget would do wonders to know how much you can spend on one, but I think that your two choices (considering what you linked) are:

-7th/8th generation intel (i5-8xxx or i7-7xxx for example) very good processor and has a decent integrated video card for playing League or w/e

-amd ryzen (only one laptop has it but apparently january is the time for a few more to come) way better than old AMD

for basic school (like just doing documents, surfing the web and maybe League of Legends) anything intel that's recent (i5-7xxx) will work, light gaming bump up to ryzen or to a laptop with a MX150 nVidia
