Has anyone else not been motivated to play League lately?

Now first: Happy New Year. Just wanted to throw that out.

But back to my main topic, I just haven't been motivated to try and get in matches of League lately. I've just grown tired of the direction the game has and is still taking, into this Dota-snowball fest because that's honestly what it feels like.

First blood & first tower contribute to who wins the game, towers themselves feel like a joke still, & bot lane still feels like the true decider of a game while top are still on that isolated island of theirs with little impact (unless you're someone like Tryndamere, Yorick, or Nasus).

Damage feels overall too high, especially with the new runes. Speaking of runes, I don't ever get the feeling like they're actually runes but more like an updated mastery page. There are no major runes to help bruisers that much outside of Grasp, which feels very limiting, or damage over time mages.

Rotating games are a joke to me. All it ever gives is Poro King, Nexus Seige, or Ascension repeatedly. We've gotten some other game modes back like Doom bots or Dark Star Singularity, but those only come around every now and again per year. We've still have yet to get one-for-all, one of my favorite game modes, or Hexakill or, hell, even Nemisis which when I look it up has only played once but I'd like to try it again.

And let's not forget the beating around the ruined URF that most people loved so much and how their latest version has upset so many fans. And get this: they're latest ask Riot talked about it and said that URF caused people to leave. I'm fairly certain you're still causing people to leave by changing one of the most popular game modes by the community, which at this point I believe to be a used to be.

Let's not forget the super annoying amount of champions in the game now like Yasuo still, Fizz, Fiora, Zoe now and the champions that I swear are just Riot's spoiled little shits that they don't give any real nerfs to like Lee Sin (FUCK LEE SIN! I'M SICK OF SEEING HIM IN GENERAL!).

Orange essence is down and gives little value to unlock skins, Blue essence takes a while to unlock due to chests giving low value shards, loot boxes are still shit, & gemstones aren't worth it to me anymore because of said loot boxes or the level required to earn them naturally.

What it comes down to is this: Damage is just beyond insane at this point, games still revolve around snowballing and bot lane, there's not that much variety in game modes to choose from majority of the time, crafting feels like it's been gutted badly this preseason.

And because of that, the game just doesn't feel that much fun anymore. Every time I log on I don't ever feel like playing against real people cause I'm either going to get stuck with teammates that are trolls or are toxic. Hell I can't ever bring myself to play AI since I hate going top lane in the stupid 2v1, which is still a pet peeve of mine, and they don't really bring any huge challenge unless one teammate purposely trolls or is a bot.

I've been more motivated to try other games to almost replace League at this point, like Paragon, Battlerite, and even HotS. I really just don't see a reason to continually keep diving into games like this if this is the direction Riot is continually taking the game that I loved a long time ago but now have just begun to hate now.

No you aren't the only one. I barely play anymore. Besides life getting in the way, the draw to League is just gone for now

Cant bring myself to chain games like before, feels like a chore.

Before I used to have fun trying to get better at the game, but either ive peaked or the skill cap is just gone... or both.i

I'm having a good time playing, but I certainly do miss the longer games.

I uninstalled the client way back in November. I haven't had any desire to play since then. I'm rarely even on the forums too. I just grew tired of how Riot manages their game these days. I miss old league but definitely not the league of today.

I haven't played a single other MOBA in 7 years. I exclusively played LOL...

I can't find any motivation to play. HotS has been ok to me so far. Gonna still shop around. I don't feel as addicted to league anymore. It isn't even a burnout... its just that I don't find the games interesting. Its league of lethality all over again. Except this time I can't start with high enough base stats to ignore early game damage, because runes don't exist.

Tyrannus01/1/2018, 11:13:46 PM5 votes

Hate to say it but this is why I switched to HotS on top of the Dominion controversy, and Riot's continual decision to fuck with content you've already paid for, (like Veridian Kayle.)

Honestly I think a big part of it to me is because there's no real reason to play another game after the first win. Leveling doesn't feel super fun and the exp you gain basically means you have to play like 10 wins to level. I don't feel very willing to grind when I know I'm getting less BE than I got IP and I'm having to play more for the BE I do get.

Unless I see a video of something off meta that looks really fun and gives me a craving to play, or if I get a hankering for a Kat game, as she is one of my favorite champions to play, I usually just play until I get my first win, and drop out.

I used to want to be a pro, and now that's the last thing I'd want. This used to be my favorite game, and I really do want to stop playing. Too bad I've spent over a thousand dollars on it and there's no going back from there.

I've personally decided to take a small break. My main doesn't exactly feel very fun to play, but beyond that, I've been looking fir a good excuse to take a break. The fact that since it's the holiday, therefore I won't miss much news, is the perfect reason to catch up on my backlog of games and anime League has been totally eating time from.

I only finally got through Pokemon Ultra Moon despite having it for a month and being a huge Pokemon fan, and Samus Returns has been sitting around for over 3 months waiting for me. Not to mention I STILL havent sat down to properly play Zelda Breath of the Wild yet.

Honestly it's almost liberating having not played League in a couple of days.

with the new rune system it bugged the crap out of me at first, but now i feel it actually brought back that required brain power and strategy because everyone is now on the same stat scale. but it seems like the idiocy levels have spiked tenfold. a lot of my recent games have gone straight to shit before you even see a minion. people don't know how to refrain from spewing venom at others long enough to win a match anymore.

League hasn't been fun for me for a loooong time. I can't even say why exactly, since it's been a lot of little things that have all just added up. I used to play this game almost religiously but now I barely touch it and I rarely feel satisfied when I do.

ChuShoe1/2/2018, 5:29:53 AM2 votes

I spend more time just sitting here watching youtube than I do playing league, unlike before. it's not fun, but I guess it's a little better for my health.

Mukuro Perkz1/2/2018, 6:22:51 AM2 votes

I play a bot game for fotw and then log out. Games just feel like they are over by 15, but you never get a unanimous surrender. Playing from behind is not fun in anyway because of how fast the game snowballs. Also a lot of champs I like are trash, and the OP champs are really REALLY strong. I used to love toplane, but every time its like oh look they picked X into me, I lose. Not fun really. Idk what they could do to fix it since this is a long term issue, but I hope over S8 LoL becomes a strategy game again instead of an action MOBA like Battlerite or something.

I get burned out with League more often lately mostly because my main group of friends are just never on. I still have a fun time playing League, but other factors draw my attention away more easily than before.

Boop Daddy 1/2/2018, 3:56:56 AM2 votes

Lol. I think I lost long time internet friends over league. The draw had been decline prior to, and is completely gone now. It's pretty hard to hit the play button.

I open my client, but before even typing in username and password I think:

"Do I even want to play League? Do I even feel like playing anymore? Isn't all that's gonna happen me being tilted for 30 minutes and quitting? This will be just a waste of time. Nahhhh"

And then I close the client.

I had fun at the beginning of the preseason but as the preseason shenanigans died down and the broken stuff became more prominent I just got bored. I see champs like yi in every game now and they're usually the only player that matters.

libDoge1/2/2018, 8:04:45 AM1 votes

League to me is just not all that fun anymore. Ive been playing for 4 years, and honestly the best years of league were back when i first started playing. Back then the toxic players were a minimum, and i truly loved the game. fast forward 4 years and now that play button just doesnt have the same meaning it use to. everygame ive played has always had a toxic player and i cant stand it. F$%# this game, and f$%# the toxic players. Id rather spend my money and time on games that are worth it with developers who listen to their player base. PUBG anyone?summoner 4 [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Won't lie, I just can't get into league myself. A lot of the time matches are just one-sided. We either smash or get smashed. Then i just plainly get bored, too bored to feel motivated to play. Now, I LOVE Urf, but I am extremely picky with my champion pool and often times only play, single-handedly, two champions at most. Anything else usually is just very dull to me for play style. I adore warwick ever since the rework, and I've been itching to just spam warwick in URF to actually have fun, but instead I end up with these random champions that are just.. not fun for me. Stuff like ashe, nidalee, orianna - things I'd never consider playing. Truthfully miss the old URF - would be amazing to see URF in it's original form, the first time it was released, or at the very least a rotation where it is available to us in the sense that we can pick our own champion for crying out loud.

Moody Jazz1/2/2018, 3:56:19 PM1 votes

You definitely aren't the only one. To be honest, whenever I decide that I will play a game or two(after some thinking about is it really worth it), it feels like I must do it, like it's a chore, and playing the game isn't really fun anymore for me. The direction in which this game is going is really sad.

I have slowly been losing motivation for the past 3+ months. The skill level of the players either makes games impossible to come back from or makes them boring because of free win.

Winterkill1/2/2018, 6:09:34 PM1 votes

I played just yesterday and I haven't played before that in like six days. Before that I played a few games and didn't play for a week. The game is getting to a point where it is no longer fun.

AP itemization is terrible, champions like Zoe and Yasuo are annoying to play against and will probably never be nerfed or reworked, champions like Ezreal are ignored and will never be nerfed because he probably has a skin coming out soon. The games are WAY too short and not fun anymore. Minions are annoying as usual and never worked on, and towers are shit.

Blakiepug1/2/2018, 7:15:23 PM1 votes

They just aren't releasing the kind of new content that I want. They are recycling content and what is worse that they are messing with the recycled content to make it worse. Take AR URF for example, this mode takes my issue with One for All (that Teemo and Karthus are unpickable) and amplifies it to an 11 by simply not giving the player any authority in choosing which champion they want to play.

Another reason I have become disinterested as of late is because of Riot's recent fascination with reworking champions. This doesn't appeal to me as a player at all (if anything it just makes me angry a lot of the time to see some champs I like such as Galio flat out removed from the game) and because they are pushing so many out a year now, that means there are less times I get excited over seeing a fantastic new champion such as the hype that surrounded Kindred for me when she was released. I just don't feel the same way with champion rework teasers, which instead make me feel like ugh, what did Riot do. :/

Lastly, I think the thing that has really pushed me over the edge and made me just not feel like playing the game anymore this holiday season is that it feels like Riot just doesn't listen to the community anymore. They just talk about how they hear our feedback but are not going to listen to it. It feels like they are tone deaf recently. Like I didn't want a new set of runes to begin with, I would rather have had runes simply removed from the game entirely. Then there is the infinite leveling. What purpose does it serve and why was this change even looked into in the first place? I could go on and on but there have just been so many missed steps at this point for me personally that I don't really care about playing League much anymore.

Noblewind1/2/2018, 9:23:58 PM1 votes

I find it bizarre that a game this huge chooses to basically turn their Core game mode off for almost 2 months a year. That just seems like such an unnecessary risk of losing interest in the game. I know that I lose interest simply from not caring about my rank until the new season starts, and now that I've played some other games I can definitely say I won't be spending as much game time on league as I used to once it starts again.

laughup021/2/2018, 10:20:55 PM1 votes

Obviously not everyone, but a lot of people that are losing their desire for the game have been playing it for a long time and, even with constant changes, eventually a game gets boring after awhile (other factors could be more influencing, like they don't like how the game is going, etc).

I myself am getting close to my 4th league break, but its more of life + other games I recently got then anything else. I enjoyed 2017 for league tbh.

Ginger9761/2/2018, 10:23:53 PM1 votes

Me...

I've only played two separate days since the new season started. I've been playing since '09, and this is the second year in a row where I have waited to start playing until several months into the new season.

CptMarcel1/3/2018, 12:46:17 AM1 votes

I still love league, I only play on TT though. No snowbally bot lane to worry about and the game mode is a little faster paced which always keeps me interested. Sure there are annoying champs as always but I find that any champion can do well in 3v3 if you know how to play them where as on SR some champions are just, seemingly, useless. That being said, Riot also just doesn't care to attend to the problem the 3v3 game mode and TT has. There's been plenty of people talking about them and Riot has never commented about the TT map, let alone attempt to fix it. Also, I totally agree with your rune/mastery page paragraph. I really, really miss the old set up, I don't know why Riot is trying to over simplify everything, I loved the customization part of the game and being able to build all different rune pages. Also the whole BE over IP is silly. There is nothing for me to spend my BE on because I have all the champs, and what's the purpose of buying a new rune page?

TL;DR 3v3 is the best game mode right now IMO although it also need help, Riot stop oversimplifying the game, most of us love customization. Good post.summoner 6

Xonra1/3/2018, 1:25:49 AM1 votes

It's fine, I'm sure it isn't the state of the game and Riot will soon trot out a chart about how people quit after URF. ( /s just in case it was needed )

URF is the reason I continue playing and the only reason why I continue to live. [sg-jinx]
