I Think Pyke Is Great

Assuming he's not disgustingly overtuned or gets buffs in the first couple of weeks, I think Pyke is a great idea.

  • He gives autofills a support/assassin hybrid they might be more capable of playing than a straight up support
  • In line with that, his kit is focused on minimizing KS (via ulti etc), which should help minimize toxicity for people playing him who get kills
  • He provides an alternate playstyle to the enchanter/tank support standard, which alot of people like
  • He has interesting abilities and scaling

I just don't understand why so many people are up in arms about this. Everyone complains about the enchanter/tank support standard, but then Riot tries to give y'all an alternative, and everybody bitches about that too. At least wait until release and see how he's handled in terms of balancing to complain about whether or not he's OP or UP, or whether or not he 'fits' the support role.

I have very little experience with damage dealers and assassins what with being relegated to support and tanking every game, so the change is welcome. The fear is that people will shove him into comps that really need peel, which isn't his strong suit.

As someone who loves the support role (even if I'm really only good at thresh), I agree, Pyke is so cool. More hooks, a cool stun that can be used to get out of the backline and scatter the enemy or keep them from chasing you, and a cool ultimate, he'll be a refreshing addition to the game. Definitely getting him on release, I love his theme and kit so far.

Because he doesn't actually do the support role

he's not a peeler, he doesn't buff or heal/shield, he doesn't synergize with a team to create something greater than the sum of it's parts the way normal supports go. If you actually main support (as in you actually enjoy the concept/idea of helping your team) and were looking forward to the next upcoming support, then this isn't your champion.

Pretty much the only reason why Riot is selling this champ is "make the autofilled assassin players happy" and they're doing this by making a champion that is just another assassin that has to work on a support income (which I'll be honest, sounds like a balance nightmare).
