See, now you must put it in a jar to preserve the proof. Also, if you stick it in the freezer, it will gloss over to look like the wrapper is still on.

No, you didn't. What happened was: you successfully bought a candy cane that hadn't been damaged in the shipping/stocking process.

You don't break them by peeling the plastic off. You receive them with hairline fractures throughout when you purchase them.
