Are Yams and Sweet Potatos good for health?

Is it a good entree for dinner? I am trying to do a all vegi, fruit and Egg White detoxification diet for a month and just want to get all of the bad stuff out of my imune system because i have been eating junk food for a year almost. Any suggestions? I need to get all my daily needs from only fruits and vegies. What would I replace the meat and grains with? I am thinking egg whites should be fine for some protien and apples provide some protien but not sure. I do need to eat a real meal though so I was thinking a Yam or a Sweet potato or perhaps a baked potato seasoned with fresh cilentro and lemon?

Sweet potatoes have more powerful nutritional benefits than yams do. Sweet potatoes and yams are both healthy foods, and they look similar. Sweet potatoes, however, have higher concentrations of most nutrients and more fiber.

Meat is a protein and that is one of the many things your body needs to exist. Non Meat sources of protein can be beans, lentils, tofu and nuts.

Zucchini can be shredded and mixed with a binder such as egg and cheese but I'm not sure if you can have dairy in that diet.

That being said it's actually recommended to consult your doctor for advice since not all diets work for everyone (You don't wanna get yourself sick)

I replaced junk food snacks with fruits and veggies instead.

Good luck with your diet.

"Detox" diets are bullshit fad diets. Changing what you eat isn't going to magically purge something out of your body that say has been building up over the course of a year. If you really do have a condition like that you need to see a doctor and not use something you found on the internet; that's why Steve Jobs died.

Eating junk food isn't going to magically infect your immune system; instead its the case that your immune system may be depressed because you aren't getting the nutrients you need. If you want to have a stronger immune system just focus on eating well-portioned balanced meals.

Or you could just... eat a balanced diet.

Generally speaking, yes, it's a good idea to eat sweet potatoes when done properly.

As Besteau pointed out, however, it is always important to consider what else is in your diet. No single ingredient will be able to cover all nutritional needs, and it is entirely possible to starve to death eating only (for example) sweet potatoes, because even though they are quite healthy that doesn't mean that they have everything you need on their own.

Think of the specific reason you want to do this vegi/fruit/egg diet, as well. Is your goal just to lose weight? To drop your blood pressure? To gain muscle? To lower cholesterol? Your goal should influence the exact details of whatever diet you want to go on.

If you're going to do anything complicated (such as what you describe), you should also always consult a professional. No one on GD is going to be able to give you advice that will be nearly as helpful as what your doctor can tell you.
