Out of curiousity, Riot, what qualifications would one need to get onto the balance team.

For all other teams, the answer is more obvious. For the animation department, well you would have probably needed to go to an art school and studied animation. Lore team, you need probably need experience with literature and writing. But balance? It's such an oddly specific task that there really isn't any clear qualifications for it. So, what would be the ideal candidate for the balance team? Do you have to have worked with Riot for a certain time? Is there some kind of degree Riot looks for. Please, I'm genuinely curious.

my guess would be yes statistics as like the lowest level requirement. Probably have to show some level of skill at playing the game, and a higher level mathematics degree.

Then you have to throw that all in the garbage and tell them you're willing to listen to the cries of the lowest elo players possible and cater to the people who buy the most skins.

I'm guessing statistical analysis of some sort.

The Statistics Team is a completely separate department from the "Balance" (Game Design) Team. So that theory goes out the window. Additionally, Rito doesn't have a "Balance" Team anymore and hasn't for several seasons now. The dep. was renamed "Gameplay Design" and announced in a news post where Rito openly stated that they don't balance this game & hadn't done so for a while, at the time of that post.

So there is no "Balance Team" to get hired to, it literally doesn't exist. The question now becomes what prerequisites are needed to be in Gameplay Design. Which in all honesty, they probably don't have any requirements, especially when you consider the kinds of people currently employed in Gameplay Design... If anything, coding might be a bonus, but according to a statement made by one of the Heralds here, Rito uses unpaid interns for their programming. As far as I know, Rito will hire anybody, especially if they're male.

Stats, data science, critical thinking ability. That last one is probably the hardest to come by.
