Can someone explain why auto attacks do less damage to towers overtime?

So, I was playing a game with Yasuo today, and I noticed something strange. I was attacking the turret (with plates still on), but as I continued to attack it, my basic attacks were actually doing less damage overtime. And the weirdest thing is after a plate fell off my attacks did even less damage. You'd think that after a huge armor plate falls off a turret you'd be doing more damage to it, but is seems the opposite is true!

Destroying a plate does actually increase the resistances of turrets. That’s to ensure that you can’t just breeze through all of them at once.

As for “less damage over time”, don’t really know what kind of situation you’re describing here.

Towers gain increasing defenses with each plate you break, 40 armor/mr per plate (0/40/80/120/160)

Yes, this is counter-logical (pun intended since the proper word is, i believe, counter-intuitive) but its for the sake of gameplay. A 160 armor turret would be nigh impossible to break more than 1 or 2 plates before the 14 minute mark without Herald, and the point of plates is to SPEED UP games (by accelerating income in the early game and promote aggressive pushes v. late game sieges)
