The new game that Riot is working on......what do you think it is?

EDIT: Sorry for the long, misguided discussion here. I got carried away. If you can't tell, I'm kind of excited for this.

The only thing we know for a fact about this new game that Riot is working on.......is that it's a new game, and that they're working on it.

Brandon and Marc (Ryze and Tryndamere respectfully) didn't leave the production of League for nothing.

They're not paying Bioluminessence for nothing.

Whatever this game is, it has been in Research and Development for years. Bio was hired a little over 3 years ago (maybe 4....she didn't make her presence known until around 3 years ago), and she has NEVER worked on League of Legends. Her title only confirms that, being "Senior Level Designer"......and League doesn't have "game" levels.

Game development takes a long time, especially when you're coming up with something brand new. Take the masterpiece that is the new God of War (Dad of Boy); according to Wikipedia, it was in development for roughly 4 years.....maybe even longer, if you count all the concept work that had to go into it. Hell, for a better example, look at the newly teased Cyberpunk 2077, which was first teased over 5 years ago.....and it's still over a year away.

So.....if we put the minimal pieces we have of this puzzle together.......we can probably assume that whatever this game is, Riot may just at least tease it sometime next year. I can guarantee that this game is still years away, and is nowhere near being completed. However, the fact that Brandon and Marc have moved away from League at least tells me that they do have a clear direction and vision for what this game is. The "Research" is done, and the "Development" has likely truly begun.

What do I think the game could be? Well.....if any of you have read my past threads, you'll know that I've practically been begging Riot to make it an WoW esque MMO. Though, there are a couple problems with that.

First is that the MMO genre is very, very, slowly dying. There are some games that the MMO community is hoping will breath new life into the genre (like Ashes of Creation), but so far......they've had very little to work with. Riot making an MMO may not be the best move, business wise, because not only will they have to compete with Blizzard, they'll also be kind of competing with themselves, considering what kind of game League is.

Second is that Riot is likely shelving out millions of dollars a month for server space. Hosting over 100 million players world wide certainly can't come cheap. Having to add to that already very large check may not be in Riot's best interests.

So, after considering these, I think they are making something more.....story driven. Mind you, this won't be a new IP. This game will very likely make use of Runeterra (the amount of artwork they've been pumping out, and the amount of world building they're doing in the lore alludes to this.......also, Bio's weird fascination with maps also helps allude to it I'd say). League itself honestly can not host the kind of world that is Runeterra. They tried doing that with the old lore, pre-retcon, and we all know how that turned out. But, ironically enough, Riot likely didn't retcon the lore because it couldn't handle League....instead, it was the other way around.

Whatever this game is, it's going to be big.....big enough to host the world that is Runeterra. Will it be open world? Eh......maybe. We simply don't know enough to tell. But, it will likely be set during a massive event for Runeterra. We're talking, full on Void invasion massive, like the Burning Legion invading Azeroth massive. The Void is very, very clearly being set up as the one true threat to all of Runeterra. Forget the petty arguments between Demacia and Noxus, and forget that hundreds of people die every year in Bilgewater to a Black Mist, this invasion of the Void will have one, single, burning purpose:

Consume. Everything.

But, that's all speculation, sadly. All we can do is wait and find out if any of this info is true.
