Is Battlerite a well designed game?

I was thinking about moving on to that game because I’m getting tired of this game’s lack of balance. What I’m asking is that is Battlerite a balanced game? Is it a fun game where you want to come back a lot? How is the community? Can you play all the characters for free or do you have to grind to get them like in League? Did they get rid of their spyware thing? Is the game growing or dying?
