How would you get/keep a dog cool?

It's getting really hot in the UK, I have a water cooler in the room and I put an ice pack in the water to keep it cool, windows are open

One of my dogs is really having a bad time in the heat, any tips for getting him cool and comfortable?

He's a small dog, a Staffie - 10 months old

You should also mention the UK doesn't have air conditioning, many American's just assume we do [zombie-nunu-bummed]

Fans, shade, lots of cold water, lots of brushing (to make sure there's not extra hair keeping more heat in)

Don't think there's much else you can do without air conditioning.

well heres an idea... a small lil kiddie pool ( plastic you can get like at walmart etc) push some water in it so the dog can get in it and lay in the water to help cool.
